A-9s Late position

Would you call a raise with this? Or would it depend on the read you have on the raiser?


Lets say one off the button, positive or negative ev?


I usually fold this but each time im very tempted but everything ive read tells me fold. Im curious about what you guys have to say about this.

In a cash game, you can justify a call, a reraise and a fold, based on your read of the raiser and the people betting behind you.

For me, it all depends on the circumstances, but one off the button, I'd have no problem with a raise, as the implied odds are huge if you hit and you have position if the button doesn't come along for the ride.

Yeah, we don't need to be playing A9s in a raised pot. At least not heads up.

What are you hoping the raiser has? KQ? A8?

Save AXs for stealing blinds or sneaking into cheap multi-way pots.

As said above, in a cash game A9s in late pos can be a playable hand. But in a tourney its a fold.

I will call this but keep in mind that if i do hit an ace, there is a chance that i have a weaker kicker. I wont hesitate to fold top pair with this if i have a good read on the guy and have absolutely nothing to draw too.

Against a raise I think you have to fold this. You will only hit a flush on the flop 0.8% and a flush draw is only 11.8%. You will only hit 2 pair 2% of the time. Now if no one has raised and there is a bunch of limpers you can see the flop here for cheap to hit your hand. With a raise though I think it's an easy fold.

Playing hands like A9 in a raised pot preflop is only going to get you into trouble. If you are deep stacked, then you could call and see if you can out play the guy since you have position. But you need to be careful and not get carried away. You can end up throwing a bunch of chips away.

Insta fold IMO. What can you actually beat? I say fold it and save your money for another hand where you actually have a better chance at winning.

It depends on who the player is. Just because he raised pre flop doesn't mean he has AK, AQ, AJ or AT. So, again it depends on the player, stack sizes and tendencies.

you need to be very careful, because if you go down this road you can end up losing a lot of chips with A9. So you should probably fold this 90% of the time.

A lot depends on the other players and your read on them. But more than 50% of the time I would fold A9.

i usually fold A9.you could hit your ace but your kicker is not that good

I use A9 to steal with all the time. Some conditions: 1) MUST be an unopened pot 2) Bubble or ITM 3) Must be on the button, CO or SB 4) No hyperaggro players on the SB or BB. If you don't meet all 4 conditions, then it's a fold.

If the SB is a high blind limper and the entire table folds to the SB and he just completes the blind, then I will steal from the BB.
