Depends on your own BRM. Standard is about 20-25BIs which would be $500 - $625 for 25NL and $1000 - $1250. Generally the higher the limits the more of a 'cushion' you want.

If you're new to either of the stakes, then I'd err on the conservative side: 30+ buy-ins. If, however, you've been crushing these stakes on another site or similar, then 20 buy-ins will probably be safe enough.

I like the ladder system Kall. That is a good basis to go on, once you get up to a certain BR, move up to the next limit. Once you lose down to a set point of low BR, get out and move down in limits.

6 buy-ins for any level is not enough. I've dropped that much in a session. I moved to NL50 with 30 buy-ins ($1500).

All you need to concentrate on is when in general joining any game that is a bigger stake money game make sure
a) You buy in for more than 10 x the blind
b) You can afford to lose the money you put in

As said in a earlier post it would be a great idea to play more tighter with more money if you haven't been playing these stake games for long. I would advise doing this anyway because playing aggressive with a small stack will mean you keep buying in with the small amount and eventually this will add up to you losing everything. Remember it all depends on you BR. ;)

Yeah I would abide by the 20buyin minimum rule ... meaning you are not playing at a level unless you had 20 buyins for it. I'm planning to move to 50nl when I have 25 to 30 buyins ...

I feel the only thing keeping me from the bigger games is my bankroll not my skill level. When I make a deposit online I will often drop about 150 on ub, and play $25 SNG's some people call this bad money managment, but my rule of thumb is after I play 4 games I stop, If I am up, I will want to withdraw what I am up. When I play live I will bring up to $1500 and play 500 min 1500 max NL with 5/10 blinds, I play untill I hit 4500 , go broke or play for 8 hrs

When I make a deposit online I will often drop about 150 on Ultimatebet, and play $25 SNG's some people call this bad money managment, but my rule of thumb is after I play 4 games I stop, If I am up, I will want to withdraw what I am up. So it appears to me that you have a large BR to play with and the $150 deposit you make is not the amount to consider when you look a how you manage it. Mostly I see 5% being the most you should risk at any one time and if you have $1500 you can lose then you are really only risking 1-2% on any one game. So I wouldn't look upon that as bad management.

I on the other hand would only have the online deposit to work with and could only play for $5-10.

I think the advice being given is too aggressive, especially if you aren't a proven winner at your stakes. If you are trying to not go broke and make a long term profit, then 40 buy-ins should be the minimum.
