2nd live experience, and I still don't get it.

Holy crap these people will play anything.

Try to get someone to fold that nothing hand? No dice, it's call city. Let's see if we can hit that river.

Now, I guess this is what you want. It certainly seems like an environment to make money.

But it's so damn different from my online experience. I'm finding it very difficult to adapt. Playing a little looser than my online play, and I STILL stick out like a sore thumb with unholy tight play compared to the table.

Anyway, that was my second live experience ..... a $1/$2 cash game at one of these charity events. I ended up $100 in the black basically from two hands, both I was dealt AA.

One I hit a boat, A's over 2's and just destroyed a guy who called my big pf raise and every bet I made with his TPTK.

The other I made a mistake (I think) when again I get pocket A's and just bet them wildly. I would have been destroyed myself by any 2 pair or set, but again she was just betting her Q's with a good kicker.

This is what I see ........ people going WAY too far by simply pairing up.

So I'm sure I look like a fish (I mucked my cards in the BB in a unraised pot! I just wasn't paying attention ....... stupid).

I even had one guy stand up from a position four to my left and then sit back down directly on my right when the seat opened up. I wondered if this was because he noticed my noobish play.

So it could be worse. While learning live play, I could be spending money to do so, but so far my live career is up $100 (first time was a dead break even).

Also, again I see I have to learn how to not be distracted by the 'talkers'. Man I just want people to STFU and play.

I Don't see the point in internet players trying to adapt to live play if it only confuses them or loses money.

Internet play is bound to be far more profitable than live play at those stakes, i guess live play might be more fun but i doubt it because like you say the talking will just annoy most internet players who are there to make money.

There is no question that it is confusing to me so far.

I guess that's part of the point, though. I cant learn about it if I don't try it.

Even considering all the yapping that goes on, live play does have an appeal to me I guess.

to be fair your playing at a charity event and not a casino. i wouldnt draw too many conclusions about live play yet. a casino is the best enviorment for live poker imo. where in a charity event, you might get the hardcore players who gamble a lot, in casino, you often have a chance of runnining into tourists and other out of towners who cant wait to hand over their money. best of luck to you.

Attitude comes first, you have the right outlook on the topic. The quality of live play varies so much depending on where you play/who you play. You will see some pretty bad play at casino's too, you have to adjust your game to suit the villians you face.

You are at a 1/2 table and by your own admission the "new guy". Most players in a cardroom or local indian casino are more than willing to losse 40 or 50 bucks to feel you out. They want to get information on you, what you play, what your tales are and where your tilt line is at. You will see this crazy playing for a while until they get to know you, then things will calm down. At least until the next new face shows up.

In casions the poker is played usually at nights when drunk tourists or locals go there to "get lucky". Most of them get eaten by the real sharks who usually enter the casino at the same time and find the tables with fishes. In live game players are used to play looser and like to bluff more, because cards are dealt much slower than in online and every decision takes more time. Ye i know some interent players who make mistakes entering live, they act like they are in front of the computer, but computer cant read people.

You're playing some pretty low limit poker so of course people are going to see alot of flops...don't sit down at a table with kiddie limits and expect the same type of play that you would see from 300-600 players...maybe try some tourney's to work into your live experience

I 137% disagree

The standard of play at $200NL online is, on the whole, pretty good. The standard of play at $200NL live, however, is pretty much exactly as the OP described.

I know which game I'd rather play in, and which game I'd make more money playing in the long run.

One of the problems I see at casinos is multiple donks. It's hard enough to beat one lucky donk, but when there are 3 of them seeing the flop, plus 2 solid players, one of the donks often seem to come out on top by the River. (I won't bore you with my bad beat by a donk stories in live play, but I got a million of 'em!) Personally, I can't afford to play high limtis, but I'm not even sure if that's the answer. Look at the hands Sammy Farah plays on HSP...hardly premium stuff. For most of the donks, they play poker because their favorite slot machine was taken or they want to see if they can get lucky. Inevitabley, one of them does and beats you...leaving you to wonder, "How in the heck could anyone play that hand, let alone call two pre-flop raises, let alone go all the way to the River with that hand, only to suckout! Sheesh!" The donks don't come to play poker, they come to play showdown.

Live play is far better than internet IMO.

It dosent even come close for me - its not real poker playing infront of a laptop staring at a screen - you need the real action with real people. I play much better live than online also because except from betting patterns, its pretty impossible to tell how a guy is feeling about his hand online, whereas Live you get interaction non stop.

I'll agree 100% with the motivation - a lot of people come to the casino poker table to gamble, not necessarily to play poker.

This is a Good Thing(TM) for us though. Granted, it can be difficult when there's three of them in every pot and you're probably going to need a better hand to win than if you were just up against one of them. But when you do catch that better hand, and it'll come eventually, you ought to get paid off big.

I'm a firm believer that you just need to adjust your game, and think of the long run. If people really are sucking out on you for the big pots, it means you're making the right plays and should be making money in the long run.

Better, as in you enjoy it more? Or better, as in the quality of Play? One I can agree with, one you will need some very strong supporting evidence to convice me of.

If you are transitioning from online tournaments to live cash games there is another wrinkle to get used to. You sound like a solid online player. IMO good online players can transition to excellent live players.
I played at all of the live tourneys in LA for three years and the competition was very stiff and I never saw a drunk tourist after playing hundreds of tourneys. Outside of vegas, heavy drinking and poker aren't that common.
