I'm new to Single Draw. I'm seeing a lot of raising preflop and standing pat when someone has a 10 Low. Wouldnt you want to finish with better than a 10?

My home game recently added this to our rotation, I like the game. I find that a 10 is a good hand to check down, but if the action gets too hot, it's not likely very good. Depending on my position, opponents draws, and predraw action determines if I stand pat or not. Here's a sample hand from my home game last week.

I was in the SB for $.25, it was limped 4 way. I had 10 7 6 5 2. I stood pat with my 10. BB drew 3, UTG drew 2, button drew 3. I figured it's likely they probably didn't catch 2 cards under a 10 that didn't pair one of their cards so I led out for $2, the size of the pot. BB folded, and UTG raised to $7, button folded, and I called and he picked up a K, trying to bluff me off a hand like a 10 or a 9.

I've only played maybe 20-30 hands of it, but I like the game and think I have a decent feel for it, I'll let you know how tomorrow night goes.

I love the game as well. Some thing happened today in the game I was in. First hand. Big stack drew 2. then raised my 9 low. I called and he had 2 pair. Needless to say, his stack begin depleting. Shocking

I'm enjoying the game so far....I agree with checking down the 10.

A jack low hand is favored over a one card draw, so raising and standing pat with a ten low, assuming the player can get heads up, isn't a bad play. Multiway is a different story.

Does anyone know of any books on this game? I think Super System only covers triple draw.

I saw a 2-7 draw posting and I got allll excited. I pray nearly everyday that one of the full tilt updates includes A-5 or 2-7. Awesome games, but are forgotten or ignored. Last yr the game got some attention because of ivey’s win in an 2-7 event. ppl had the live version posted on the web without the commentators and hole cams and everything so it was really great. If u haven’t gotten a chance, google it and try to watch a lil bit while playing online or whatever. that final table with ivey was good, except that kid with the glasses, loolool.

Id say it depends on who ur playing that 10 or 9 against at the table. If the opponent is a solid player, u could check it down and pray. But more than likey they are gonna be drawing to something lower than a 10, as they’ll have a 9 or 8 as the high card and are drawing lower.

If im playing an aggressive player or some1 who doesn’t have a clue, im checking the 10 down. But if I have a more experienced player im ditching the 10 and going for a lower hand and hoping for the best- especially in the limit form. I usually get beat with a 10 against a solid player. the inexperienced players usually get the 2 pair though so check it down. Lolol

Using herbish1’s hand as an example I could justify a draw against a solid player because there aren’t any str8 problems coming my way with the 2 - 5 so I could draw to the 8, 4, 3 or 9 and be ok. And there aren’t any flush problems as im gonna assume its all rainbow stuff. The only problem is with this hand is that 3 4 8 are cards ur opponent usually have so it might be hard to catch.

But it all boils down to do u want to risk an ok hand like a 10 or 9 in 2-7 to risk going for a nearly unbeatable hand? and questions like this are what makes this game so awesome. its in 2-7 where u can get a mediocre hand early and have to make a real decision. It gets really interesting playing this in the nl form as u have to decide if the 10 or 9 is any good and worth playing for ur stack! lolol

I love 2-7. a-5 is easier to get into for beginners though. I haven’t really found any books on it besides like its mentioned earlier- Negreanu’s section in ss2. not enough ppl play draw anymore and that’s a shame because 2-7 is just as advanced and probably harder than holdem and is just as fun to play.
