I was asked what the Million Playchip model was and since I don't remember ever reading anything specific about it, I don't remember if it has ever been formalized into a coherent 'model', but if it had, I'm fairly sure it would go like this;

Figure out how to earn 1 million play chips via online poker. That's really all there is to it.

While figuring it out you will have to go thru all the poor play at the worst levels of online poker. At some point you WILL LEARN PATIENCE! That is when you will be able to play the higher level play chip games where actual good poker begins to appear. The play is still lotto like, but less lotto like than at the cheapest levels.

You could begin to also start thinking about bankroll management. This will occur almost naturally because you have set a goal of 1 million playchips, and quickly learned that 72offsuit is never an all in hand.

You will take chances with that bankroll in the early stages of this model. You will win a lowest level game and then move directly to a bigger buy-in, and hopefully a little saner game. You will fail often, but in the SnG's you still might increase your bankroll of playchips and once you can regularly play the 10K buy-ins you will see that your game has improved remarkably at no out of pocket cost to you. This is not something a new player can do in an afternoon. I doubt there are many good players could do a min (what each site starts them with) to 1 million playchips in a day. I just noticed that Full TIlt has a 1 mil 2 table SnG that is almost full. Think I'll rail it.

The 10K games are decent. You will still run into totally terrible play/players but sometimes will see that those plays and players are really not bad, they are trying something out to improve their game.

So, once you get your bankroll into the half million range you could fairly reasonably decide you are ready for real money poker. You are.....sort of.

If you hang in there and play without the scared money aspect you will face in real money games, you will learn things that will cost you real money in cash games but will be free to learn in play money games.

So if you can, stick to the goal of 1 million play chips before moving to real money.

There are folks who only play play money and have amassed 100's of millions of play chips. Boggles my mind truthfully. I'm sure they are learning stuff, but it seems they are learning unprofitable stuff.

So the million playchip model should allow you to move to real money games and be about a break even player at worst. But a knowledgeable player who has learned patience, and hand selection, and position and with the help of Poker forums and book study may have progressed much further, and faster, at less out of pocket expense, then the fish who throws paycheck after paycheck at a pipe dream.

Thanks for this question;

thanks for a long answer, I can tell that you really did think about this.

I will try this out, right now I have 500 000 playchips but that comes from mass multi tabling 25/50 (where the play is really horrific have that I have not learned anything accept that people will pay you off even if your playing 8% of your hands) and although it works get me playchips it will not help me at all when I play real money.

I will start right now trying to reach 1.5 million playchips by playing harder players, and I will see where that will take me. Once I reach it I will start trying to get a real money bankroll.

thanks for the response.

Looks like you are playing ring. I got mine via SnG's and Tourneys.

However, there are RUSH play money games, both ring and tourney that I like to still play. They play a little below the $4 RUSH 135 seat SNG's, but not much. The ring play money Rush games play quite a bit below the real money RUSH ring games.

Ugh....is it fun playing for play chips? I guess I never understood this. Good job at winning that much, but I don't see the time invested into play chips. It's beyond me, sorry. I play poker for extra income...I just can't see past that. Well thought out theory tho!

Poker is about time commitment and playing for something meaningful.

The playchip tables are awesome for ppl that are starting out because they can become familiar with a game and risk nadda except time while gaining experience. it can also teach a few intermediate players about working on their bankroll management skills with cash.

I can see some1 caring more about a few million playchips that they took a month to get rather than 50-100$ that they could get from working a day or less.

There is an easy way to get them. I made an experiment like half year ago . SNGs at pokerstars Real tight play. Took me like a week. Worst players i saw in my life. Lot of times did no played a hand and went out second place. Lots of times i got HU after first hand:)) All-in fest. At real cash microstakes at least they know how many cards are in the deck. But at playmoney I saw them calling all in hands like AKKA2 with 32 :)) It is the transition between facebook and real cash.

BTW. Playmoney does not learn you real poker. Just teach you the game and the basics. Is like an amateur chess player playing for nuts in the park goes to play for real money in a competition. You will not be an breakeven player unless you are a genius. You will just be new fish for the sharks. Losing real money does not feel the same with losing playchips. And a real money bankroll you can loose once:) It does not reload after an hour :D

It is so easy to earn play chips on full tilt. I have gone from 0 to a million in a day many times before.

All you have to day is play the steps.
You register for one step two, 5 minutes later reload your chips register for another and continue to do that.
Step 2 is so easy, You can sit out and sometimes earn a step 3.
You keep saving up your step2s and making a few step3s.
Then you move on and start saving up some step 4 tickets.
Once you get to 4 you can either stop and play the 10k SNG or keep going on your way to step6(100k) or step7(300k).

At step 6 you can stop and play the 100k SNG or keep going to step 7.

If you can get to step 7 then you have a chance at making a million right there since first place is a little over one million chips.

I always end up losing my money because I play the 500k 40$ play chip freerolls. I win a few bucks most of the time, but I lose all my play chips.

There are things you can learn in play money that transcend all levels of poker.

Patience being at the top of the list. Granted, it may be the only really good lesson you can learn at playchip poker, but why pay real money for that lesson over and over again?

Playchips is for kids!

sumday i might win a million playchips. But what is the reward other then saying I won a million playchips. well if you win a million playchips at full tilt u can play 2 500k play ckip sng tourneys whith a prize pool of forty bucs real money. But why stop there s h ii t if you can win a million playchips why not go on to winn a million bucs. Hawk u house car wife and play the wsop u2 could be a millionaire?. I myself would like to double a buc twenty times and that equals one million forty eight thousand and five hundred and seventy six dollars. Heads up ya all 20 games and u2 could be a milliomaire.
