The deposit minimum on FTP is $50...I'm sure it's been debated before but why so high? In my opinion they have the greatest array of scheduled tournaments and Sit N' Go's. Their interface is super clean and easy to navigate.

I get that they make more money off players if the min deposit is higher then most places. Most people deposit $50 and lose it at the tables. FTP rakes their share and they move onto the next customer.
It's not to keep the donkeys out cuz FTP has more then their fair share.

I just think if they lowered it to $10-$30 they would pull in a huge group of people who don't want to or can't deposit that much money. I realise some of you are thinking "If you can't afford to deposit $50 you probably shouldn't be playing." Well that's not the point. Plenty of people can deposit a twenty here or a twenty there for fun and if they lose it it's no big deal.

Over the years I would have deposited hundreds of dollars on there if it weren't so expensive. Instead, they get no money from me unless I win CC freerolls or some other sponsored freeroll. I think they're losing money doing this.

Thoughts?

I believe they just lowered it to $10 - but it is only for first time deposits, then it goes back to $50.

I believe the reaso the limit is so high because of the processing of a card transaction. I have often wondered how some sights can have the limit at 10.00 because they may be paying at least 1.00 to do the transaction

I'm not sure if it's any different then regular cc machine processing which i think is .35 cents except for amex which is more expensive...but i haven't seen any poker sites that offer amex acceptance.

In most cases, at least in the U.S. merchant market, processing fees charged to the merchant are by percentage, not flat fees. Those fees also vary slightly by the actual main card processor. Merchants who process huge volumes (as poker sites would) can also negotiate their fees.

Amex could be a real problem for the sites. Many Amex cards have 'no limit' on what can be charged. There are a lot of players who get trapped in playing 'catch up poker' and max out their cards. Imagine what could happen with 'no max limit' credit cards. After massive losing sessions, the chargeback probability would be huge and the headaches endless.
