I don't know much about paypal but if it's to set up an account for depositing & withdrawling from & to pokersites, I would think Moneybookers would be the way to go (idk for sure... but do know that Moneybookers works with alot of the sites... but does Paypal?). I'm just about to set up a Moneybookers account myself (finally breaking down & giving in, lol).

That's all I can add. Not sure if it helps ya at all.

Carefully read Paypal's Terms of Service.

One of their items specifically prohibits using Paypal for any transaction involving gaming or gambling. Paypal has in the past closed accounts without notice and held all funds for 6 months. They are also very specific about closing any account found to be using their services for gaming purposes.

Paypal is also VERY good at detecting gaming site use.

Unless you won't mind your money being tied up for up to 6 months, stay with Moneybookers...

Make sure you read my post above (#3) about Paypal. It may not be the same rules for other countries, but Paypal accounts in US using funds for ANY gaming/gambling transactions is cause for Paypal to IMMEDIATELY close your account ... without notice and without recourse.

Be aware .....

Moneybookers is the nuts. Verifying your account to be able to do wire cashouts is a bit of a pain, but way worth it.

Moneybookers is much better for gambling websites. I'm not even sure if paypal offer it to any of the good poker websites, I know they offer paypal for betfair but that's all I've ever come across.

I'd stick with moneybookers, you can use it most if not all. I use moneybookers for pokerstars as well as debit card.

I also have to say that I am very satisfied with using moneybookers for transferring money from and to poker rooms. I can highly recommend it.

Hey people, those of you who are using debit cards have you heard that in July, the Federal Reserve will need to make a verdict on whether to institute a debit card charge cap, and just how much it will be. A deadline extension came down to a fairly close vote, but the measure was defeated and the deadline is still looming. The cap could have serious implications for customers. I found this here: July deadline looming for ruling on debit card fee cap, personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog.

i use neteller only negative with them is larger minimum deposit and withdrawals on there, also they take 10 dollars from you if you transfer to your bank from them, do moneybookers do the same thing? if so then you might as well play on neteller, would not recommend paypal at all

I believe this is no longer correct. Paypal is accepted at a number of legit European online poker sites, including PokerStars.

With that said, its far from universal like MoneyBookers (now skrill) and Neteller. Personally I recommend Skrill because they have a security token, which in my opinion is essential for e-wallets.

It IS still correct, at least regarding the use of Paypal for U.S. customers. In 'some' other countries/regions Paypal DOES permit their site to be used for gaming/gambling purposes.

As far as the U.S., here's the reference, current as of today:

Prohibited Activities

You may not use the PayPal service for activities that:
  1. violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation.
  2. relate to transactions involving (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety, (b) drug paraphernalia, (c) items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity, (d) stolen goods including digital and virtual goods (e) items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance, or the financial exploitation of a crime, (f) items that are considered obscene, (g) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction, (h) certain sexually oriented materials or services, (i) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (j) ,certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.
  3. relate to transactions that (a) show the personal information of third parties in violation of applicable law, (b) support pyramid or ponzi schemes, matrix programs, other "get rich quick" schemes or certain multi-level marketing programs, (c) are associated with purchases of annuities or lottery contracts, lay-away systems, off-shore banking or transactions to finance or refinance debts funded by a credit card, (d) are for the sale of certain items before the seller has control or possession of the item, (e) are by payment processors to collect payments on behalf of merchants, (f), are associated with the sale of traveler's checks or money orders, (h) involve currency exchanges or check cashing businesses, or (i) involve certain credit repair, debt settlement services, credit transactions or insurance activities.
  4. involve the sales of products or services identified by government agencies to have a high likelihood of being fraudulent.
  5. violate applicable laws or industry regulations regarding the sale of (a) tobacco products, or (b) prescription drugs and devices.
  6. involve gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize, including, but not limited to casino games, sports betting, horse or greyhound racing, lottery tickets, other ventures that facilitate gambling, games of skill (whether or not it is legally defined as a lottery) and sweepstakes unless the operator has obtained prior approval from PayPal and the operator and customers are located exclusively in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted by law.

That's exactly what I meant to say when I said "Paypal is accepted at a number of legit European online poker sites," so sorry if i wasn't clear.

We are comparing moneybookers to paypal/neteller. None of these three allows US transactions to online gambling, so I thought it was a given that US wasn't accepted.
