is it legal for a player who has no real money account but had like 60million play chips and sold them for real cash and then after transferring the cash to a friend who has a real money account and that player then withdraws it from his account to his credit card....hypothetically speaking of course...lol

Did not think you could transfer play chips. Can you?

And how are you getting the cash from the friend buying it? Or are you saying that "you" never get the cash, but a 3rd friend gets it and then you and he make a deal in real life or something?

I don't know about withdrawing to a credit card, but you are allowed to sell playmoney/accept transfers.

If you don't play real money with it before cashing out they may suspect a money laundering type scam  or think you're using pokerstars as a substitute for western union, which they don't appreciate.

I read about someone depositing then trying to transfer to make a purchase, and pokerstars wouldn't allow it because not enough poker had been played with the money.

...and of/c if you don't deposit, you will need to provide identification to cash out.

My understanding is that poker stars does not condone selling chips, but they don't try and prevent it. I believe I heard that Boku87 tried to sell 1 million chips after he busted out when he was trying to do his $5 to $100,000 challenge, but instead of doing that Poker Stars "awarded" boku $5 so that the fact that chips are being sold outside of the realm of poker stars would not be publicly disclosed.

on fulltilt its not legally possible to sell the chips because in order to give your chips to the buyer you would have to "dump" the chips across the table to them in which fulltilt doesn't allow chips to be passed across tables

with pokerstars its a bit of a grey area in my opinion because they have the trade playchips option on there client i believe you could do it maybe email there support or something and ask otherwise you might never know

i know that cash dumping is illegal but neever heard of chip dumping to be illegal...im thinking it must be a fine line that if PS allows it then it cant be that bad

This whole matter of getting money by whatever means for PLAY CHIPS, is pretty hard to swallow. I mean, is there really any market for them?

i know this is not allowed on fulltilt. they actually have a tournament you can buyin for playchips and win real cash. so their view is that playchips have some real cash value(although not much). and although neither PS nor FTP condones selling playchips i don't think either makes any point in enforcing the rules.

But chip dumping is clearly against the rules, I really doubt it matters whether those chips are "play" money or "real" money either way it is against FTPs rules (illegal has nothing to do with anything). Sitting down at a table and clearly chip dumping is against their rules.

Yeah, PNJs, that's my thing also. But we have one reply here suggesting some small money tourneys can be played with FTP poings, so maybe they buy them up for that.

As for the chip dumping issue: That depends purely on HOW the play chips are moved. Do they have to dump them to the buying player, OP (original poster)?

Someone said once that maybe pokerstars would allow transfer of play chips....but I'd like to hear from the OP on how he was going to move the play chips.

poker stars has a option .it says transfer of money/tournament dollars /or play chips...but ftp doesnt....so i dont know the severity of that rule to them

Ive sold playchips to these sites before, granted it was on PS not FT, but the poker sites dont care in the least.

and the reason the online sites buy them is there ARE some people who buy playchips with real money so they can just gamble like crazy with them.

i know of a few people on fulltilt that trade the chips but not sell them when it comes to selling them i believe that pokerstars is the only site out of the 2 fulltilt and pokerstars that you could sell chips in a way thats not going to get u banned

OK, thanks to all 3 of you for the replies. Very informative. It boggles my mind the people that would pay for play chips (I used to have millions on ongame, before they kicked off the USA players).

And even slightly puzzleing that FT would ban people for dumping PLAY chips, if they don't give a way for them to be transferred. I can see it's not a good precedent to allow any form of "dumping", but who would really CARE about playchips being dumped? I would not think it would be worth the time of any paid employees to even bother investigating play chip dumping.....

Im not too familair with the play money tables at full tilt but just a suggestion. If youve had money in your account ask him to transfer the amount desired into your real money account. (Dont know restrictions from website whether you can recieve transfers without ever depositing). Once that is settled you can search for or create a private table and just raise to one chip less than all in during hands and then fold, letting him "steal" the pot. Its alot of work for $5 or play chips. If you want $5 in your account try a pre-paid visa which can be found all over at stores such as CVS or Wal-Mart. Be aware that sites have a minimum deposit required though, unaware of what Full-Tilt requires, best of luck

THIS IS THE WHOLE ARGUMENT WERE HAVING DUDE....DOING WHAT U SAY IS CALLED CHIP DUMPING AND IS ILLEGAL BUT THE QUESTION OF dumping play chips ....is it a slap on the hand or a bannishment consequence.
