I made an e-check deposit to poker stars from a credit union checking account it was not accepted by the credit union. I have used e-checks to other merchants not poker sites with out problems. anyone else had problems with us banks not sending to poker sites.

Update: As of 5th June PokerStars is having echeck problems with depositing. If you are looking to deposit at an online poker site with echecks we recommend you try Ultimate Bet

Banks and Online Poker

Sorry. Due to Congressional pressures and legislation forthcoming, American banks are not permitted to transfer funds to online poker sites. Several online entities which started out providing this service have either gone under completely, e.g., neteller, or eventually dropped that service.

Much of this has been generated by the fact that under-aged players have gotten hold of their family members' check cards, blowing on-hand equity the family needs simply to pay bills, manage/building savings, etc. (FYI, I do not recommend using personal bank checks, as these entities are overseas and out of US jurisdiction.) Nor do I recommend using a payment method which requires one to reveal their Social Security numbers; identidy theft is a very real and [to evil persons] a very lucrative business.

Recommend direct payment to the cashiers ... contact them to get "snail mail" addresses where you can send a money order. Even if off-shore or Foreign locations, they will often accommodate US dollars ... just check with them before you send them funds.

Write your Congressman {grin} and voice your opinion(s). Our American, in-Country, lounges are losing $millions+ because those of us who wish to play are sending funds out of the Country. ....and yet have heard news reports that Vegas is losing lots of business because their casinos cannot participate in the internet world.

Thank You!

TY for your reply it was comprehensive. If I am correct there was some confusion as to wether or not banks would be able to monitor or refuse ACH/electronic e-checks. I guess they have now put in place now methods for doing this. What an mandated law enforcement load on the banks. Thank you again.

e Checks

EChecks are Ok, but they take so long to clear and I'm having a problem now with a casino double billing me and sticking me with an insufficient funds charge on my bank. Not many poker rooms still accept eChecks, I think just Pstars...

I just deposited using e-checks on pokerstars. Worked fine for me. Well, the money is in my ps account, now let's see if my bank goes through with the transfer. :)

The only problem I had with the eCheck transfer is that by the time I got my statement I couldn't remember what that charge was for. It took me awhile to figure it out.

Money was available on Stars right away, before it was taken out of my account.

It doesn't say anything about a poker site on the charge itself so I'm not sure how your credit union could have associated it with Pokerstars.

I had no trouble depositing to PokerStars via eCheck.

Now, cashing out, those funds are still in limbo. But I being compensated 20% for the delay makes up for that. :)

When I objected to PokerStars' Cashier recommending that I use eChecks, pointing out that there is absolutely no need for their access to my Social Security Number for deposits, they sent me a "snail mail" address to use. They respected my concern. I pointed out that the ONLY reason for using a Social Security Number might be for reporting winnings to IRS (grin ... and I'm a long way from that level at the present).

I hope that those folks giving out their SSANs have some sort of identity theft protection in place ... there's all sorts of reasonably priced entities for that nowadays.

I've made several (unfortunately) eChecks deposts at PokerStars over the last couple months. No problems whatsoever. The charges show up on my statement as something like a "Payday Loan", lol.
