Hi all,

Just wanted to ask any Canadian members here if they have experienced problems depositing cash into their pokerstars account using their Canadian Bank issued Credit Cards. Both RBC and TD banks have declined transactions. After phone call to both banks, I was told that online gambling sites transactions are not eligible in order "to protect our customers"!!! Protect from what? So ridiculous. I thought we lived in free country where we could choose how we like to spend our money. Such BS.

Yeah it sucks but it's nothing new, you can pick up the Vanilla prepaid cards from Wal-Mart and other places and they work on most of the sites, the only drawback is the $5 fee when you buy them.

I didn't realize that about the pre paid cards, but good to know. I did know about the Canadian sites but a card owner should have the right to waive the protection clause on their card. Maybe its time for you to switch cardholders.

I definitely will switch. Do you know which Canadian bank doesn't have the ridiculous "protection clause"?

I have never heard of the Vanilla prepaid cards. Can one choose specific amounts or are they pre-determined amounts? Also I don't see that option of payment in the PokerStars cashier window.

They are in $25, $50, $100, and $200 increments, you are better off with the "Vanilla mastercard" because the "Vanilla visa" only work on some sites and the Mastercard will work on all sites. When using them to deposit just use the normal Mastercard deposit option and it should work like a charm. Good luck.

The prepaid cards cannot be used to withdraw back onto. I use bank transfer to withdraw, if you deposit with the card you should be able to withdraw with a different method.

Hi all,

I am also a customer of RBC (Royal Bank of canada) and they gave me for free a Visa virtual debit card linked to my bank account which allows me to do online purchases (like online gambling) with none of the restrictions of a Canadian credit card. You should go ask your RBC branch about getting a Visa virtual debit card, it should solve your problem.

Thanks. I was thinking that that might be the case. Thanks for clarification.

Thanks so much for letting me know about this option! I had heard about the virtual debit cards but didn't know much about them. I just did a google search for "RBC Virtual Debit" and from what I read on their site, this looks like the perfect solution to my problem as well as other fellow Canadians in the same situation as me. Many thanks again! 👍👊

If you read the agreement your bank gave you to sign it clearly states you cannot use for online gaming sites. There are however some Canadian banks that allow gaming deposits and withdrawls without any problems.

I use pre paid cards to make it easier and this also keeps your personal bank debit/credit card numbers out of the system.
