No info on villains (playing on phone) Elementary school freeroll on pokerstars. 9 handed

Villain 1 MP: 1400 chips
Hero CO: 1900 chips
Villain 2: 3000 chips

Hero is dealt 8c8h

Villain 1 calls BB (60)
Hero raises to 180.
Villain 2 calls, villain 1 calls. Others fold.

Flop comes 2h 7c jd

Villain 1 checks
Hero checks
Villain 2 raises 480
Villain 1 folds.
Hero calls.

Turn Kh
Hero checks
Villain 2 raises 480.
Hero calls

Turn Ad
Hero checks
Villain 2 raises allin
Hero folds

I was thinking afterwards I should have raised on the flop. Now I dont have much info on his hand strength because I didnt. Maybe he had something like K7 or A7... Maybe he even had the jack. I don't reall know what to make of it.

Any thoughts on how this hand should have played?

It is necessary to look at the previous rounds. Did he steal the blinds? Is it tight or aggressive? If the range of hands is low, then most likely he raised with a good hand. If he's an aggressive player, he's probably just bluffing. Again, the stage of the game greatly influences. Specifically in this situation, I would have folded the cards. Pair 8 is not a very strong hand.

Fold the flop. He has jacks or 2pair both which thrash your hand.

Hi, man!
If you have quite a good hand (88 and higher) in the late position when the majority of your villains have already folded, make a raise definetly. It'll help you try to continue telling "the story about your pocket monsters" on the post-flop. Being in the early position open raising only with QQ and higher with 3-bet. JJ :jd4::jd4: is rather controversial hand to open from UTG position in such an agrassive way, I've suffered once my own negligence of shoving with pocket Jacks. That's what I've discovered up untill now. If u have something to add, you're welcome!:)

if you're going to check call the flop....just lead out. if he raises you can fold. you're beat. and why check call on the turn? you're drawing to 2 outs at that point. check fold there.

Throw out a small bet after the flop. Only thing that can beat you is the J or long shot trips. If you get raised after your bet it is easy to fold and get away from the hand. You could have bet 160 after flop and either won the hand right there or folded and save 800 chips. That is the way I would have played the hand. Everyone plays different but I am more conservative!!

At low stakes, without reads, with a semi dry board, I think you should almost always cbet if you raised first. You can even raise slightly smaller than half pot, but if you dont raise you really dont have a chance at winning the hand, because what do you do if either villan bets?

I don't mind the flop check-call, but fold to the turn bet. What hands do you think you're beating?

usually I always raise on the flop when the smal and big players are in the action when I'm with top pair and have been asked for draws I do over 60% of the time I'm betting on these types of situations

You must do the continuos raise after flop. Is the villans reraise you fold the hand and loose less
After the continuos raise you normally win the hand.but if one players pay. Be carefully can play slow and get to the trap and loose your stack

you mentioned you had no info on the villain so i assume this is early in the game. You are playing online so not likely to get a realistic read on the person on one hand. IMO when he bet 480 you have two choices 1 - fold because you believe he can beat you _ no way to get an idea of ranges this guy plays yet since you have no info on him or 2) re-raise to see if he comes over the top instead of waiting for the next card. If he comes over the top either fold or call depending on how "lucky" you feel.

Personally, I am folding on the first raise here unless something makes me think he is bluffing. You are in a bad position with too little info to really play this without guessing in my opinion

Yes, but not great to not scare the opponent.
