Hand Analysis: AA Bad Beat vs 2 Opponents $1.10 MTT advice?

Hello guys,

I just wanted to make a post with regard to losing AA against 2 opponents. Basically, one opponent raises pre, another opponent comes over the top and raises, and I go all in. This resulted in a bad beat, losing to ATo when he hits a straight.

I decided to go all in to narrow the number of players and try and steal the chips if everyone folds pre. Instead two players call all ins with JJ and ATo. The JJ make trips, and the ATo makes a straight taking down the hand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm confused on what you want advice about? you got two ppl to stick their chips in behind... sounds like the perfect scenario....

It was right move... On micros people tend to pay more hands but in a long run your aces will survive and there is triple up!!

In my opinion you played very well only that sometimes even if you play well and you have great hand the cards just don't roll in your favour; happens to all of us from time to time.

You did the right thing.
Just one piece of advice.....don't do what your opponents did.
Raising JJ is fine ofcourse, 3-betting with A10o is extremely loose agressive, although it might take the pot down.
Though after an AI 4-bet, JJ can only hope for a flip against AK and will be a dog against QQ+, while A10 is a huge dog all of the time.

Your equity in the hand is huge, while even in case you would push with AK and QQ+ their call is a throwing away money strategy.



As you can see JJ has 36 % here, but that's only if A10 comes along too and in case you would push AK too.
In case A10 would be smart enough to fold, JJ has this against you in case you push AK and QQ+:



In case you would just push QQ+ it looks like this for your opponents:



and if A10 folds (which he should) it looks like this for JJ:



To summarize, you did the right thing while your opponents made huge mistakes after your AI push.

Don't let the outcome of the hand influence your decisions in the future.
No matter the A10 winning the hand, he played a losing strategy, as well as JJ did.

We don't want them to see a cheap flop, so imo the push is ok, esp as no matter if you push or just 4-bet around 1900,at these buy-in, if they want to, they will call anyways.
So, no matter the outcome, you did the right thing and they made the mistakes which will cost them in the long run......they are the losing fish you want at the table.

While winning the hand right there and winning the chips in the middle is never a bad outcome, you definitely should be happy to get it all in with the best hand. You aren't trying to steal (bluff) in this spot. You are betting for value, hoping to be called.

The line I took by raising all in was done for these reasons:

It was to narrow down the amount of players in the pot because I don’t want to invite more people cheaply with mediocre holdings that may win.

It was to gain value if called

And if everyone folds I do steal the chips

Remember that with AA 3-handed you are going to lose 40% of the time. That’s great odds for a triple up.

Sometimes the only thing you can do is get a bigger stack so you can outlast the donkeys.

Looking deeper:
This is like the 3rd/4th level in a micro tournament. I think that you would have been fine flat calling. You need to ask yourself if you want a 60-40 all in at that point for a triple up and to deal with the variance. I don’t like being all in without the nuts until I’m at least a couple hours into the tournament. It helps weed out the junk.

Like you said it's a bad beat. You played perfectly and just lost. It happens. Always be glad to get it in preflop with Aces. Well done.

Another two year old hand history, but since the theme is recurring, I will comment on it anyway. And as others have said already, this is a perfect result for Hero. Hero got it in 3-ways with 75,5% equity, which is just about as good, as it ever gets in poker. So there is no point in "waiting for a better spot" or "reducing variance", because there will never be any better spot.

This presumably happened in the very first blind level, but busting this early is totally fine, as long as it was only due to bad luck. We did not spend any time on the tournament yet, and its a whole lot better to bust early than on the bubble. As I did today in a 22$ tournament, when my QQ ran into KK with 20BB stacks. It still got nothing out of those 4 hours of play, so busting in the very first hand would have been better.

And if rebuy or reenter is possible, then we just fire another bullet, and we are right back into the game. Just like when a cash game player gets stacked, because his set ran into a better set or any other kind of cooler situation or bad beat. Reload, play on and forget about it. That is all, there is to do.
