Nice Play IMO

Played exactly like you did! with the over card out there, and easily in villains range, in most cases like this, Hero either wins a small pot or looses a large one.

An argument could be had that the Ace was a scare card and when villain gave up on the river to bet, but that could just of easily have been a trap. When the board paired on the turn it just solidifies my thoughts, I believe the safest coarse of action is what Hero did.

I'd bet the flop and check/fold the turn on a club but bet again on another ace, on other turns probably call depends on if i had any reads on him.

As you played is fine, he has many aces in his range.
