Hi Everyone. I got caught up in a hand late last night that still hurts a little this morning. Trying to shake it off. The Villain had been raising two or three times in a row. Still, no excuse for making a snap call and losing all my chips. Basically, the payout was top 5 hands receiving multiple tournament tickets, and the sixth hand receiving $7. At least it was a free roll but I do not like it when I make the occasional blunder like I did in this hand. I would appreciate your thoughts.

His 3-bet all-in was him indicating that he had the straight. Now was he just bluffing it ?
Considering that he raised pre-flop, one could imagine after his all-in that he had KQ (weird that he raised with 78)

I guess it's an unlikely occurrence of Hero having a good two-pair, Villain flopping an even better straight, and making it clear only after half your stack is in the pot.

I'm pretty sure I would have had a hard time folding a double-pair and a possible double-up; it's exactly the kind of hand in which I go bust.
I guess when hitting a good flop, before wondering how to make money I should first imagine a plausible "worst-case scenario" to cool me down.

Yep. Thank you for the insights.

If the guy is a straight maniac I don't mind the call I think your raise sizing on the flop is just too big allowing villain to play near optimal against it and if he is a standard villain the all in shove to the raise indicates three of a kind plus and against that range you are smashed. However some maniacs will go nuts with like aj here if it's a freeroll but in a vaccum I think you can make the raise smaller and then fold to the reraise

I agree with your analysis and that my raise was too big which took away my ability to fold to his final raise. Next time... Thank you.

I'm not sure why you raise here. Why not just call his bet on the flop. Keep the bluffs alive and reduce damage/give yourself chance to catch up when you're behind. I really don't like your bet on the turn. We shouldn't be getting it in when the flush hits. Need to think about what you're beating. All straights are there, flush is there, set of 9s still ahead, T9 and J9 are less likely but probably not going crazy on a straighty/flush board. Wet flops where you are semi-strong is a good time to try and keep pot small. This thinking is only magnified by the fact that it's basically a super satty. You don't need to collect a pile of chips to win, you only have to squeak into the $ and you have plenty of chips.
