i have 10BB (roughly one half the average stack) with 120 runners left paying 60. looking to go all in soon. first position raises, a couple folds, i reraise all in with AK and everyone folds. then i have around 15BB still looking to shove/fold when the next hand i get 88. folds to me, i go raise all in, get two callers who have me covered. they bet back and forth and eventually chop the pot with straight over trips.

anyway, my question is should i have gone all in with 88s there or waited for another spot? should i have folded or called perhaps to see what further action took place behind me?

With 15BBs I think going all-in with most pocket pairs is the right call. You will be ahead usually and you need to take the chance to double up.

While I think that I myself would also shove 88 in the scenario you described, I think a standard opening bet has some merit too. But as I type this trying to play out different card run outs and the possible outcomes, I keep coming back to the shove pre flop as the right play.

does me going all in on the immediately previous hand impact the decision? i feel like i got two callers when i wouldn't have otherwise. meaning, the first hand i go all in on most will fold, but on the second people will think that i'm not playing anything premium and will call me off with less than normal, perhaps?

with 15BB I think it might be a little too early to shove with 88. you have room to make 3BB raise and see how the flop goes...

how would you tend to play that hand? are there hands you would open shove at 15 or only on lower BB?
Depends my position, playing style in combination with relative stack sizes.
50% from the bubble.
Fold is the most unlikely
2-3bb is the most likely

you seem to have the minority opinion....unless i shoved into your high straight? lol

Why you tell me about straight?
We talking about preflop action, so in my opinion 88 is great hand to shove with your short stack. If someone beat You with straight that's bad luck, but if we talking about preflop ranges in that kind of situation I bet that 88 will be EV+ in longrun.
Would be great if You put here full info about this hand to make better analysis :)

that was a little joke about the hand. most people thought i played it badly but you said it was a good move, so i was teasing that i must have ran into your straight that day.

in the OP i talk about the result of the hand, that's where the straight came from. i'm still trying to get a handle on hand ranges for different circumstances, that's why i ask a lot of these.

I'm shoving with any pockets, any ace and broadway cards. sometimes suited connectors too.
