Villain is a Casino Reg and is known to be quite aggressive, has decent reading skills and likes to put alot of pressure when sees weakness.

Villain is chip leader with around $230k stack
has been raising blinds and 3 betting in the last few orbits.

Hero has $100k and has been playing very tight last few orbits due to being card dead .

Action - villain raises to $12k from UTG.
Hero - tanks on the BTN with AA.
SB BB fold

Flop JhQh7s

Hero bets 9k villain allin

Interesting spot.

I don't think I would ever shove preflop against this particular opponent as he will have a very wide raising range on the bubble and shoving doesn't allow him to make a mistake.

I feel a flat here is fine, if we make a small 3bet, he is likely folding as we are going to look very strong when showing any signs of aggression, flatting also allows one of the blinds to squeeze with a strong hand.

I would bet bigger on the flop as this board is semi-wet. Assuming the pot is 36k when checked to you, I would make it 15-18k here. Obviously you have to call off the shove as our hand is very under repped.

Tricky, I'm really torn about the call preflop vs a 3bet to like 27-33k. My reasoning is I really don't want to let the bb in cheap and be going 3 handed with limited info on the opponents. I can see spots where I would flat to try to induce one of the blinds to jam, but that's very specific situations.

As Played once villain checks a bet is mandatory, do you have the ace of hearts? That makes a slight difference for me but I'll go on as if you don't. The pot at that point has 3k in antes, 3k sb 6k bb and the 12k each you and villain put in. That makes the pot 36k, you have 88k and are the effective stack. I'd like a bet of around 18k-22k and I would prob wince and call off to a shove. As you played it I would still have to call off, to me the small bet looks weak and it may have induced the LAG to try to take a shot at you.

NH, I look forward to the results! :)

Thanks for your thoughts , the reason I bet so small on the flop is to induce some further action and keep villain in the hand . I figured that a small bet combined with just a call pre would look weak to villain , who likes to punish weakness .

I think that villain will c-bet in this position with all his value range so , he either has nothing a hand like AK that really wants to see a turn or has a pair and draw combo.

Furthermore the small bet sets up stacks 4 an allin on most turn cards if villain decides to float.

The BB SB are quiet tight really as the rest of the table , I dont mind taking a chance to go 3 way here and potentially wining a big pot.
I can see a scenario where SB/BB has a big hand and squeezes , knowing that villain has been raising every hand.
I think that 3bet here looks strong and like mentioned above doesnt allow villain to make a big mistake (although in hindsight villain doesnt really like folding so small 3 bet might be the better play?)

I do have the A hearts. I think that since we think that we have villains range dominated a bigger bet , gives villain an easier option to fold.
Agreed to never folding here not against a LAG with the line taken.

16bb what hands do you reshove/3bet small I actually do think if you would only 3bet small with AA /KK here so why not just 3betallin. If your smaller size 3betrange is wider as that ok.

I do see the merits in a smaller 3bet ,but it also seems a good enough player to sniff this out if your range there isnt wide enough

That late in the game with a raiser already I'm shoving pre. You're practically on the bubble so people are going to be tight, and if you can induce a loose call from the chip leader you are in position to take his place.

MasterOfDisaster & teepack I'm actually starting to come over to your side of thinking.... shoving pre may be the play to use in this spot. This shallow our shoving range is going to be large. Why not go straight for max value and toss AA in that range....

hmmmm? showing ranges are not that large on the bubble , 16 bb might seem small but when you consider the fact that most of the field is in the same shoes
and that there is a few stacks with half of your stack, your not showing that wide really.

Im not saying that showing is the wrong play because if villain has actually got a hand this time , he will call and even if he folds we pick up a decent pot .

Also inviting the blinds into the pot with good odds is probably asking for trouble.

considering the type off villain (who doesnt really like folding much) combined with your thoughts and ideas , i m also leaning towards a raise / shove .

I m just not shore if showing will get called much as it is a big chunk of villains stack and he would need a preety good hand to call off (AQ+88+), I know that a raise might look stronger , but a small 3bet allows villain a chance to call and make a mistake post flop.

This also denys the blinds a cheap price to enter the pot, or jam with a big hand like QQ+AK

Anyway here is the result

villain raises UTG , hero calls , blinds fold

FLOP QhJh7s villain checks , hero bets 9k , villain allin , hero call

villain has Ks10d

TURN A

RIVER 2

GG
