Pre Flop: (pot: 2.3 BB) Hero has K A

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.65 BB, fold, fold, BB calls 1.65 BB

Flop: (6.6 BB, 2 players) 5 5 4
BB checks, Hero bets 3.3 BB, BB calls 3.3 BB

Turn: (13.2 BB, 2 players) J
BB checks, Hero checks

River: (13.2 BB, 2 players) 9
BB bets 9.07 BB and is all-in, Hero folds.

I hate these but think its standard.

Maybe I should bet less on flop or check for pot control?

Double-barrel the turn?

Did I mention I hate this spot.

if im the villain, heres whats going on my mind:
flop: hes just cbetting probly had overcards, maybe overpairs but lets see turn
turn: so not an overpair, i think i can jam river as if i have trips or a pair

*delayed cbet on turn might work, but check/folding the river is necessary i guess

Post flop the pot is around 7 BB, effective stacks are around 12 BB. A flop shove would be okay here. I think that you are still way ahead of his range here. Put the pressure on by betting all of his chips.

With you covering the players behind you here, and having two short stacks in the blinds, I would like a bigger preflop raise size here, 3x is big enough. I know that you wanted to avoid running into a big hand from the button as he has 20+ BB, but you when you get through him, you also want either blind to 3 bet all in

I would go for double barrel cos he is small stack if he had hit that 5 there is no way he will just call ,chance of him having a 4 is small so he has a lot of drews from bb here 67,32.. and floats ofc...also jack is good card for dobule barrel...

You saved money by not putting him all in. Even small pair takes down the pot. It's nice to have big stack to take these chances.

Hand Range of Villian

You had bet 2.65BB in pre-flop, then BB will call on middle value cards too as he needs to put just 1.65BB. Always try to make bets according to position of players left.

What I had done in this situation if I was Hero-:

  1. Hero (I) was playing at a late position, only four players were left so Hero (I) would had raised close to 4 BB (hero had big stack too) because out of four 1 was SB and 1 was BB. Now, if BB had called then I will be sure that he can't have any low value cards.
  2. After flop as expected he knows that i have face cards and i too know he cant have any 5 or 4 but he can have pockets like 99,88,77,1010. (If higher then he would had raised pre-flop only). So it should be just check check after flop. or if you want to bet then bet more than 6BB to show high pocket.
  3. After turn hero should had bet the pot because his range consists of AJ,KJ, QJs,JJ and there's J on the turn. I think 5-6 BB is sufficient. Villain might had folded here.
  4. After river if he goes AL in with approximately 10BB, then Hero should fold.
This is the way I would had played that hand.:)

neither stack is very big here. I think this is one of these spots that we have to bet the turn, something that either makes BB shove or fold. (4-5bb) and if he calls (which shows he has no clue of stack and leveraging). Basically Im calling if he shove over me on the turn and with 3-4bb left Im calling his river bet or shoving if he checks on the river B B/C C or AI

Need to hear from some of the better players but I feel thats its mandatory to bet on the turn.

I think I would just shove on the flop and hope he doesn't have a 5. If you bet the flop and get shoved on you have to call, so I think it's better to just shove yourself.
