Background
This is a local casino tourney (£33 + £20 Bounty Hunter NLHE) and we're sitting at the final table, 7 handed. Our stack is 20BB with the blinds at 800/1600 ante: 800. The current pay structure sees 6th place take a min cash and 7th bubble. The final table is mostly made up of recreational players with one or two regulars. At this stage in the tourney, I have yet to take a bounty.

Hand:

Hero: UTG - K♣️Q♣️opens to 3,200

Vilian (stack 80,000): UTG +1 - Raises to 10,500

Folds back around the table to Hero.

Review/Feedback
Generally, I feel that this is an easy fold here as I am mostly dominated, but the actions of this player got me thinking for quite some time. Throughout the tourney, I have witnessed this player being quite rude to other players, acting out of turn, speaking in three-way pots and being quite unpleasant. There have been spots where he has made similar plays with KK and called off his full stack with middle pair against an over pair and sucked out on the river. It is worth mentioning that while I am tanking, the player says things such as, 'You only have two moves' and 'I will show you after or if you shove and I call'.

I know very little about the player, other than he has a reputation for being talkative and stretching the rules. He has also expressed a desire to play a PLO cash game all night. My question here is what would you do in this spot? Am I over thinking? Should I have open ripped 20BB here?

My decision and thinking at the time
During the hand, I felt that I could preserve chips here
and wait for a better spot as I am too often dominated. With the bubble so close, and weaker players around the table, who are firing off their stacks, I am likely to find a better spot. I fold face down, and the vilian turns over K♥️9♠️ and says, 'This is my favourite hand'.

Later...
I did find another spot and ended up taking down the tourney, but should I have taken this spot?

This is my first post, so please let me know if I have left out any key info.

Many thanks
P

Would you have felt any different if he turned over 2To? Why put your tournament on the line for feelings? KQ isn't a bad hand but not one to shove with at 20BB on the bubble.

so yes you did leave out some key info. we need to know stack sizes. I try to let this slide in some posts....but in a bounty tourney it is EXTREMELY influential to the strategy what the stacks are behind you and whether you cover any of them or not (and by how much).

without this info I'll assume a mix of stacks.... since you have not collected any bounties you shouldn't be one of the big stacks so I'll guess you cover 2 players and 4 cover you. I think it's just an open rip preflop. our hand is too good to just open fold and too vulnerable to bet miss. also....if there is any planet that we are raise/folding a hand this strong then open jamming it is better. It's a disaster if we let a hand like 99 3b and push us off our equity. let the small to medium pocket pairs make a decision for THEIR life. let the AJ make a decision for THEIR life.

your description of the player really shouldn't factor in at all...you're letting your ego and emotions become involved. wanting to play a PLO cash game is a somewhat reliable tell that he is light (if you believe him) but then that should only make you more likely to call and not fold.

I agree completely with this. 20bbs isn't much if I'm reading op's post right, 800/1600 with 800 ante? Maybe that's bb pays antes? And not 800 ante each hand? Either way, I'm shoving preflop, being a bounty you get calls from big stacks just trying to collect another bounty, and you need to double, with that buy-in (bounty being 20 in 53 buy-in) I doubt that min cash is much, possibly less than buy-in? So I'd be more interested in going for 1st than trying to squeeze out a min cash. But congrats for pulling out the victory in the end

Hi,

Thank you for the feedback. Next time, I'll be sure to include that key information. The 20bb stack sort of threw me a little in this spot. Anything less than that, and I'm not giving the open shove a second thought. KQ suited is strong, and I like the line of putting pressure on others to make the call from my UTG raise.
