i fold because the range for SB raising that high should be premium and your 4s are crushed by premium. if he's playing loose with A 6+ or KT+ or some suited garbage you're a coin flip for about 60/40 pot odds (and your tournament life). I'd likely call with top 5% of hands or maybe 10%

Doesn't seem worth the risk. SB's stack is much shorter than yours but there are two others behind you who could call or raise with deep/medium stacks. Just fold here.

I would fold in this situation. Of it was a bounty tournament and the guy had a big bounty on him i would at least minraise the guy from sb, if not just shove.

I folded as well so now to another question. weighing up whether the two behind are going to fold call raise or shove back over the top.

Do I ever have the implied odds here to call and try to set mine.

I fold that every time. If the SB had less than 20k I could see making the call.

That deep and with passive opponents I make those calls and if I hit I get paid well.
With a shovable stack after you or an aggressive player it would be better to complete the SB with monster hands more preferably KK+ in order to balance the SB spot and trap the maniac opponents.

44 is good enough to play in this spot but your facing two opponents. Ideally you want a heads-up situation. Normally I would shove in this spot to isolate the SB shove. He only has ~12 BB so he is shoving at any time. The UTG player is the problem. He raised and should be representing a strong hand from such an early position. I also wouldn't fret over folding this. My secondary game is to let people get knocked out. No shame in folding and letting the UTG player call the SB shove and knock him out or only double up his 12BB to 24BB instead of you calling as well and tripling him to 36BB, I would lean more towards folding. you have over 70BB so waiting for a better spot is ok. If you know the UTG will likely fold then a shove is in order to isolate. We don't know any details of the type of players or how they play. If you fold and then the UTG folds then the SB is still short stacked only have picked up 3-4BB. He will still shove in the near future.

Easy fold for small pair when playing out of position.
