I tried to control the pot on the flop and turn when the bb called my 3X on preflop. I am not sure my Ace high would be good to call his big bet on the river. It is fishy to me. What would you do here?

I call. I don't think V is betting Qx/low or mid PPs on the river to this size, while it is also likely he is betting 9x on the flop. Wp to villain if he is merging with something like A6 here.

I don't know about others, but i would like to ask you first of all: how does V play? Did you get to see any of his previous hands to put him on a range?
Does he bluff in position?
Does he bet when it goes check to him on the river?

All these questions and more play a very important role in answering your question.

YOU can even try to bluff HIM out of the pot by re-raising slightly on his river bet. This will give you all the information you need:)

Hope this helps a bit:)

If you are worried he has the Q I would just call if you gotta see what he has. He doesn't sound very strong. I would put him on med-low pockets and you might be able to check/raise/bluff this. But, of course, would need to know what kind of player he is.

This is a typical line for busted draw or pure bluff and absolute nuts FOR A FISH. Villain range is really polarized here. I would fold here but I think calling is correct.
I saw lots of time that a fish slow plays and when other players don't fall for the trap s/he bets big on river to compensate for the missed value.

Those are legitimate questions and of course, it would help us to make a better decision. However, as you can see from the stack distribution, it is an early stage of the tourney and the players have not played too much of the hands (starting chip: 1500). Also, I have not seen the V playing any pot before this hand. That is why it is a little bit tricky for me once I faced his bet on the river.

I personally do not like check raise bluff out of the pot on the river, since I am playing very shallow stack tourney. Also, it is the early stage of the tourney and I do not wanna risk a quite bit of my stack at this spot.

I liked the check raise bluff idea on the river to test his range. However, it is a shallow stack tourney (starting chip: 1500) and I do not wanna risk my chips at the early stage of the tourney.

Agree. I think folding is a standard play considering we do not have any stats of the V. I liked the way you justified the reason why he bet so big on the river (compensate for the missed value when you have very polarized range on this board)

Agree. I should have bet at least one time probably c-bet on the flop to narrow down his range. But, as I mentioned I was trying to control the pot size since I was playing OOP against the V

it is all about your strategy. you called the river any way. you could have bet on flop and he would call and that represent a connect or pocket from him. which you don't have. in this case it would be an easy fold on river.

Well then my friend, if this is the case then the simplest thing to do is fold on a river bet:)
