$350 NLHE MTT Deep Stacked: $ NLHE MTT Deep Stacked: $ NLHE MTT Deep Stacked: Can you get away from this?

This was a live tournie.

Stacks:
Hero: 14k
Villain: 40k

Villain has been super loose with his 3 bets, and every time I raised he 3bet my raises %100 of the time. There wasn't a single hand he flat called one of my raises.

Blinds: 200/400/50

I'm in MP 1 with 9h10
I open to 1200
Folds to Villain in CO.
Villain raises to 2600.
I call. (because of his loose play)

Flop: 9c10cks

I bet out 2500.
Villain repops to 6k.
With 11k left I go all in.
He calls.

Turn comes K
River comes 9.

Villain shows AKos.

Could you get away from this action on the flop/preflop? With the given information? Was there a leak in my game here?

With 35bb, not sure why we're now choosing to flat the 3bet OOP?

Are we donking the flop in hopes of inducing worse? Or do ya figure aggressive villain isn't going to continue on this board (after 3-betting pre)?
... just wondering what the thought process was

Only hand I'd had that was playable. It was a loose call to call a 3bet with it, but his play and the fact that it was a very playable hand was my thinking process. I know I could've folded pre, but as card dead as I was, I wanted to take the opportunity to see a flop, especially since his 3bet wasn't that big.

With the flop action, I was really hoping the flop was something good, in which case it was. If not, then the 3bet call again, wasn't that expensive in comparison to my open raise.

IMHO just a cooler. With the villains tendencies I may have just limped T9s in this spot knowing villain would raise and then flatted, as a pot control measure to see a cheaper flop than to open and flat the 3-bet.

So you're saying that all the hands you were raise/folding with prior were much worse than this one?

Sort of. I had a few A9/10 type hands, but with him 3 betting me I had to try put him on a range and in my eyes Ace rag type hands are no good against a 3bet, this was also before I had alot more information on how LAG the player was. This was only the 4th or 5th level of the tournament, we haven't even been dealt 100 hands yet.

When he 3bet me alot of the time I was folding Ax type hands (never AQ/AK or middle PP+, but I never had any of those hands the entire tournament.)
Then, once I figured out his play and how LAG he was I decided to call with a hand that if I hit, would usually be perfect for smashing his 3bet range.
It's a leak in my game I know, thats why i'm here asking for advice.

you gotta be really calculated when playing a 25-40bb stack. You're not deep enough really to play speculative hands, and you're not short enough to be happy with getting it in with a reasonable hand and some good equity.

So, IMHO this hand analysis is much more about tournament strategy, metagame and stack management than it is about your specific holding and the best way to proceed on the flop. Obviously you have to be happy to auto-pilot get it in on that flop.

When I find myself with that type of player on my left, it certainly puts a cramp in my style, and adjustments have to be made. I tend to open with stronger hands that can stand a re-raise and speculative hands. I tend to just fold marginal hands that will put me in tough spots vs. a player like this.

If I elect to open speculative hands and I'm expecting him to 3bet pretty wide; then I'm either going to 4bet shove if my stack size is in that awkward zone of 25-40bb or if I have a deep stack I'm going to 4bet light intending to fold to a 5bet if I haven't 4bet him yet or in a very long time.

Usually, with a player like this I try and sort out our metagame problem earlier in the session while it's relatively cheaper to send him the message "Hey, you can't just bully me with position. I'm not just gonna passively call or fold, I know you're 3betting light and I will respond accordingly. Pick a weaker target or get ready to rumble."

And yeah, sometimes he is going to have a real hand and you're going to 4bet into a monster. that's just the brakes. having a very aggressive opponent on your left is one of the toughest things in poker, but you can't just take a back seat to his game and let him run all over you all night and just wait to pick up a monster.

so....in short....either don't open the T9, or open with the intention of 4bet jamming preflop. I don't think flatting a 3bet OOP with a speculative hand and a 35bb stack is a good idea.

Yeah, I think for future reference I should still just fold this hand. Whilst he was simply bullying with position, in hindsight this hand is too speculative to actually call here. Thanks for this post though, made me definately think a lot about my play!
