Hi,

Local game, pretty loose (25min blinds) $50 buy in versus youngish guy who seemed know how to play a bit.

Blinds 300/600
Hero (18500) HJ KQh - Raises 1700 & BTN (30000) calls
Pot - 4300

Flop - Qd8s8d
Hero bets 2000 & BTN calls
Pot - 8300

Turn - 4c
Hero bets 5000 & BTN calls
Pot - 18300

River 10d
Hero checks & BTN goes all in & hero folds

It seems people call a turn bet when still getting the wrong price

Is it better to shove the turn?
Bet smaller?
Check the turn and bet blank river?

Thanks

Why would you want to stop him from calling when he's getting the wrong price? You're making huge money long term as long as you get away from it when he hits. Play it just like this.

why would you bet nearly half your remaining stack on the turn and then fold to a 7k all in on the river?
for all we know, he could just have a weaker queen.

honestly i kind of like check calling the whole way on this board to keep his range wide. how often does he really have 2 diamonds. (edit: i take that back, betting flop and turn is way better because we get value from all the hands that he calls with that he doesnt bet) the fact that you check the river is fine, i like the check on the river, but for a very different reason. you check the river because your first thought is what if he hit the flush, and its good to be aware of that possibility but giving it too much credit is monsters under the bed syndrome. I check the river here to keep his bluffs in his range. maybe he had 9T and overvalued his gutshot. ive seen live players play a gutshot as if it was the nuts.

you line on the flop and turn are fine but im calling this river 100% the time as played in a live game with loose bad players

Yeah thanks everyone, yeah maybe folding the river is exploitable.

When you go bet bet and check it means that you are scared of something. A flush e.g., a slow played trips, full house here. So he may bluff you off of your hand. If you have bet on the turn then he goes all in we can for sure say he has the nuts (or atleast he thinks he has it)

If you choose to play a low buy in in a casino(anything less than $80) you need to bet like a maniac because they will call you with any equity they pick up so punish them when you hit top pair. They are used to play $120+ but ins so $30 is freeroll for them. They are there to have fun, chase draws, and make stupid moves 😐
