Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 30/19/6.3

Note the stats from the Villain. Villain had an EP PFR of 23%, I think this is a standard defend in the SB against a player with these numbers. Maybe I should have 3b from the SB with this hand against this V since I am starting to 3b more from the SB with playable hands. In retrospect, this is the better play.

This is definitely a 3B preflop against an active EP opener. At this stack depth, we are going to want to be 3Bing a linear range, (i.e. hands that are gonna play well postflop like J9s, 76s, even some suited aces + very strong hands obv), and J9s falls into that range.

As played, I think this flop is a very easy x/r. I'd expect villain to be either very strong or very weak in this spot and there are a lot of bad cards that can come on the turn.

I check raise to 1600.

I think flatting sets you up for disaster if a Q, K, or 8 comes, or even an A for a bigger 2 pair, and lets him keep a bluff going. If you flat and then check the turn and he hammers another bet, are you really happy about it? If he's that aggressive it seems like an easy situation for you to get bluffed off the better hand if you dont fight back on the flop.

The compounding of errors in poker is a disaster and I made two: not 3b'ing and not check raising the flop.

I flat called bc I usually want fish to keep barreling when I have strong hand but the board needs to outweigh player tendencies sometimes and that is the case in this spot. This board is too wet to check call but that is what I did and here's the turn and action:

*** FLOP ***: [9h 8s Jc]
Player HERO checks
Player VILLAIN bets (475)
Player HERO calls (475)
*** TURN ***: [9h 8s Jc] [7s]
Player HERO checks
Player VILLAIN bets (950)

Any views?

I think I must call given VILLAIN's frequencies but 4 to a straight is not ideal. Against most EP raisers there are not a lot of Ten's in their range....most likely 10 combos: 4 of ATs and 6 of TT. Maybe two more of JTs (half weight). Against this particular V, there are enough T's in his range to where we will be in a world of pain on the river I suspect.

I'm folding. This is a very very dangerous card for villain to barrel without a T. Unless V is a complete spaz I fold.

I agree but I got a bit stubborn given V's tendencies.

*** TURN ***: [9h 8s Jc] [7s]
Player HERO checks
Player VILLAIN bets (950)
Player HERO calls (950)
*** RIVER ***: [9h 8s Jc 7s] [6s]
Player HERO checks
Player VILLAIN allin (4064)

Easy fold on the River and I did.

If I know I'm folding most rivers, need to fold turn.

Player HERO folds
Uncalled bet (4064) returned to VILLAIN
Player VILLAIN mucks cards
