Even if UTG usually have a strong range your obvious play is to push this short. Only thing you don't like to see if called is an over pair.

If you just call and plan to make a stop and go play it is never nice to see two overcards.

And if you call and only continue if you hit a set or have a low card flop, you don't have the odds for that.

If every advancement on the price ladder means a lot for you can maybe take a more passive line and call (or even fold).

But in 99% of the time: JUST PUSH IT!

OK, thanks! I thought I made the right play.

It's just I seem to always end up in this situation: short stack on the FT with decent holding, and always first or second to get eliminated. I just want to start making top 3 more consistently so I wasn't sure if I should start flatting more in these scenarios so I can get away on a bad flop, wait for a better hand to shove and possibly finish lower.

Hello! I agree, the decision depends on the size of the stack. His 3bet range is wide enough, I think he can have a weaker hand. In addition, the pocket pair 88 has more percent to win against AK.

this is probably a fold preflop.
Not entirely sure. 9s might be the borderline

Another confirmation from here that you played well here. Mid pair in situations like this is good to go, in fact every time when the blinds goes up like this and when you have 10-15 bbs. Yet again, well played, just unlucky this time

If 16 BB deep i prefer caling with PP. Smaller than 16 BB stack sizes shove or fold.
