$11 NLHE MTT Deep Stacked: Top pair top kicker on paired flop vs. check raise shove

Full ring. Second hour of the tournament. Stacks are still fairly deep: I had around 10k at this point. Villain had around 7-8k. Based on a small number of hands, Villain seemed to be playing reasonably, not doing anything crazy.

it's one of those flip a coin moments. nothing you do here can be considered a good option. i really have no idea here in all honesty, i think i would probably fold but i'm not really too happy about it.

also you dont have to 3bet here all the time, it's totally fine to just call with position, food for thought as AQ doesnt really play that well in big 3bet pots when you go postflop.

I fold here, not a great board even though you have top pair. He calls your 3-bet out of position, so possibly AKd, AJ or 10d9d. Could also have complete air and leveraging his image of being "reasonable."

yeah exactly, you're only crushing hands like KQ QT and they are pretty rare, most of the time we're basically flipping vs his combo draws or we're completely crushed vs Jx.

Yeah I doubted that Villain would do this with KQ or QT. In addition to the hands you both mentioned, I was also worried about running into aces or kings.

I ended up folding. No clue what Villain actually had.

Weird hand. Thanks for the feedback.

Just calling with AQ is an idea I'll have to consider more often.
