Is this just a flat pre? I figured if he called, then he's supposed to have AA, KK, AK here, and I wouldn't continue too hard. I got decent odds once the 3rd club came. No way I'm calling the river. But surely there's a better way to play this. Flat pre? Bet flop?

You have nearly the strongest hand in a flat calling range and nearly the weakest hand in a 4bet/call range. I've read a thread about this before. Whether to 4bet or flat w/ AQ.

Apparently flatting is better by a fair amount. Even though it would seem 4bet/fold, calling the 3bet and 4bet/call have similar EV but it ended up that AQ should be added to your 3flat range. It makes sense.

Because if you 4bet and villian shoves with only 5%(like TT+, AQ+) you only have 34% equity against that range and if you call his shove, it's definitely -EV.

On the other hand if he folds to your 4bet it's +EV of course.

But I think if you 4bet and he shoves you need villian to be shoving AJ or Ax some percentage of the time to be +EV.

In conclusion, i would be in favour of flatting.

flat/4b both are ok imo - as long as you're folding to a 5b pre

btw, u can raise about 55bb on that turn for the dramatic effect

i think if he had AA, KK or AKs he would have 5 bet shoved. I'd put him on JJ, QQ, AKo or AQs. O think I prefer flatting here. If this was a higher buyin tournament, I'd say cbet bluff the king high flop, but bluffing isnt always a good idea in low buy ins because the other guys dont know how to think about their opponents hands so check fold is probably okay here. on the turn you pick up the FD and he gives you good odds to call.

so pre flop i prefer a flat, but as played postflop is fine.

Yeah i was thinking about a flop bluff but i didnt trust that he would fold JJ even. It sounds like flatting is the concensus, thanks for the help.
