$1 NLHE MTT Deep Stacked: $$1 NLHE MTT Deep Stacked: Folding KK on the flop in a 4-bet pot

I don't have PT4 working so I can't convert the hand.

Stacks are deep with 11,250 effective at 40/80 blinds, no ante. Very early stages of the tournament. I'm sitting in the SB with KsKd.

The CO raises 2 x and I 3-bet pot to 560 I believe. The CO tanks for a while then puts in a wee 4-bet to 1250. I have no real reads on this player. When they do this it is almost always AA. I call the 3-bet looking for a favourable flop.

Flop comes 987hhh. Terrible flop for my hand. I check, villain bets 1/2 pot and I snap fold. AK of hearts is out there and it's just an awful flop. I think i'm either up against QQ or AA probably with a heart.

What do others think of how I played this hand?

I would have 5bet shove with KK in early stage low buy in tourney.
Yes AA would likely crush you but most often you run into AK or worse.

As played, tough to continue and makes sense to fold.

i also concur on the shove, without seeing the flop you would figure to be great favorites to get your money in pre

I know this thread is a bit old but im still going to chime in.

I agree with the 5bet shove for multiple reasons.

Biggest and #1 reason....its a $1 mtt
Lots of players are putting it in with ak off or worse....sometimes any pair at all because they figure you have a big ace.

Anyhow, you hold blockers to certain combos of AK which take that range down from 12 combos to 6 (correct me if im wrong there) plus there is no real reason to be scared of AK in this spot as you have them dominated and drawing very thin.

Another big reason is just because of the 4bet dont assume the opponent has AA - the odds of Aces running into Kings are 3% (possibly less) i believe, so with such a premium hand and such a small chance you are coolered you have to get your money in there. For the 3 times you run into aces, 97 times you wont.

On a posetive note since you elected to call and see the flop and it was such a terrible board for your hand - perhaps that saved you some $$. Even if you were good there up against AK or AQ seeing a heart within either if those 2 hands while you're all in can be a real gut buster as you sweat it out to dodge a heart.

Good luck with your game. Hope any of this helps

The board is scary, but it's not terrible. terrible would the flop with Ace. Fold is too tight, should have called at least one street.

I would pay C-bet to see the turn and try a floating on the river, or if I did not improve the hand on the turn, I fold in case of a second barrel
