Yeah, that one hurts for sure, but in microstakes tournaments, many people are NOT going to play the same way as they would in MTT's that have a higher buy-in. They are likely to play looser.

Probably the only thing I would do differently is shove on the turn. You have the best hand almost 100% of the time, and you just got unlucky on the river and you'll get worse hands to call enough of the time, ESPECIALLY two pair hands on the turn, which, given the board texture, the only drawing hands here that would hang around are T8 and QT. You MIGHT get those hands to fold, but then again, they MAY be sticky enough to chase a draw, which is what you want.

Thank you for posting

It was a cooler but an unnecessary one. You already had lots of action when it got to you so there was no need to slow play. Playing your sets fast on wet boards with multiple players will make you more money than slow play.

Hope this helps

I think, it is a pretty big mistake to not raise the flop, especially when he only bet a third of the pot. 5 players saw the flop and chances are, you will get action from at least someone. Its not the goal to keep everyone in the pot and milk them for small amounts of chips while allowing someone to potentially hit their gutshot or backdoor into a straight or flush on the river. The rest of the hand is just a cooler and also a bad beat. He had 2% equity on the flop but got there with a runner-runner to make a better boat than yours. Sucks to be you, but this is, what rebuy or reenter is for, if the tournament allows it. And otherwise just play the next one.

But the board was rainbow and the A on the turn is a dream! board all disconnected on the flop there was no way out for gutshot or flush but I agree that it could have tributed on the flop, but I think it would not extract much value ... reviewing several times now I notice that there was no escape, or he ran on the flop or he would see the turn and end up in showdawn ...

The board was J 9 4. J9 crushes early raising range AJ JJ 99 As well as calling ranges QJ QT J9 JJ 99 T8 We should be expecting to get value for our raises and can still be losing. Your statement is looking at this hand alone not as part of a range of hands you would also raise here in position such as the 1 pair hands and draws.

Hope this helps

But the board was rainbow and the A on the turn is a dream!

On the flop you dont know, what cards are going to come on the turn. And hitting an A is not a dream, if you are against KK, QQ, KJ or QJ, since these hands might now get scared and not pay you. Plenty of hands can call a raise on the flop, and slowplaying is not the best strategy in my opinion.

Thank you for your post. Preflop is well played. After the flop you are in a 4 way pot with bottom set. You call a bet that is roughly 1/3 pot. You basically gift your opponents a free card. In a multiway pot I recommend raising the amount to a full pot size bet. Punish the opponents chasing draws or one pair type hands and also fold some of the opponents out of the hand. The turn and the river are unfortunate but this type of thing happens. Good Luck

Good Luck To All:cool:

Hey Mate. Pre flop was played really good.
You need to work more post flop.
Size your betting well to extract more money.
In that flop you have to play really aggressive .

Well, I’ve been thinking about slowplay and actually it’s never a good option to do? unless you're nuts!
Is slow play a weak play?
I think it is out of fashion slow play ... it never seems like a strong move nowadays ... it seems that the software punishes! :D:D

You are absolutely on to something here. If you just never slowplay, you are at worst giving up a very small amount of EV, especially in the micros, where so many players are passive. They love to call, but they rarely bluff. The few times, you should consider a slowplay, is when you have a complete lock on the hand and maybe also board lock as well. Like if you have JJ on JJ5 rainbow. Then it can be fine to underrepresent your hand and allow the opposition to bluff and/or catch up a bit.

If you had made a big bet on the flop, the hand would have been completed maybe. But your goal is to win a big pot isn't it ? You had a 91 % chance of winning on the turn. And I am sure that the opponent considered his hand better at that time. This is incredible luck on the river. You can pull off a lot of these hands and in most cases take a big pot, but such run you down on the river will be minimal.:driver:

This story reminded me of one of the techniques of Aikido. It seems like you are doing everything right, but there is always a small percentage of luck for the opponent.
