Nice hit Styro. Small Pocket pairs give you huge implied odds if they hit. But generally i wouldnt play the 4's here, you need the p/f raiser to stack off when you do hit, and as such you should really be playing against a player thats relatively deep stacked, i dont think the stack size of the p/f raiser here was large enough to warrent playing. (marginal ok, but i wouldnt be seeing a flop here).

The rest of the hand was played fine,

Usually, I won't call a raise like that with pocket fours. But, you did and it paid off when you hit your set on the flop. Good thing the flop also gave your opponent top pair so he would call anything you bet. Big pot for you.:D

You won a decent pot and you might have gone on sem-tilt if you folded and that came up but I would have folded. Key to small PP is to see the flop cheaply. Very small chance to hit the flop so in the long run this would be a losing play.

normally i fold here, but something told me i should call. I guess you can call esp :) But i've folded 9s to smaller raises than this, so i am not quite sure why i called other than feeling it. by the way a 12$ pot at .02/.04 NL is a huge pot :)

Good pull down - you should have folded pre-flop, but every now and then you get a feeling like this one you should play the hand. Small pocket pairs are like medium suited connectors - I rarely play them, but every once in a while I get the feeling that I should play them, usually with success about 60% of the time. Basically, it's okay every now and then, but don't make a habbit out of it!!

I woudl have to say small pocket pairs you should only be in a hand preflop if there is 5 or more callers. Or in this case with a raise and only 3 people in it you have to put the raise to you on a hand. If he seems like a Ak raiser or Ax to you raise your self and get that pot to a coin flip. Some may not like this but I use this sometimes in a live game and it works very well.

4-4 preflop.
20 cent raise = call it
80 cent reraise = fold it.

Why?
To put it in basic terms.
Check the stacks of your opponents in the hand.
if you can get 8x the amount you are calling preflop when you hit your 4, then you should call. if you can't, you fold.

in your HH when it was 20cents to you, you could easily take $1.60 or more if you hit, so you call.
when it was 80 cents to you, you won't get the required $8 (20cents+80cents=$1x8). Therefore you fold.
That's ABC poker. No reads required at the 4cent NL tablesl. Math only.
