Live game, 2/5 NL. New guys sits down and is playing under the gun. You are in front of the button with just under $300. Pretty tight table with few real players. Most are just rocks waiting for hands.

7c9c : I choose to raise, and make it $20

3 calls. Pot of $82

Flop comes Qh, 8d, 4c.

BB checks, Enemy bets $15.

Other player folds, I raise. make it $65 to go.

BB folds, Enemy calls.

Pot is like $210

Turn is 2h

Under the gun, enemy bets $25.

What do you do here?

I chose to fold, putting him on trips, or a KQ and really no way to catch up. But his betting was just so weird. If had any kind of out its an instant call or raise. But I had nothing to go on. New player, weird table, never played with him before.

And his betting pattern was really weird. Such small bets compared to the pot size. I didn't know if he was trying to keep me in with trips, or just didn't know what he was doing and wasn't thinking about the pot size, as a lot of players neglect to do.

What would you have done on the turn? Or on the flop?

wat?

Lemme reword this...

SB posts
BB posts bb
UTG posts bb
Cards are dealt
Hero has 7c 9c
UTG checks
Fold
Fold
Fold
Fold
Hero raises to $20 from Cutoff
BB calls
SB folds
BB calls
UTG calls
Pot is $82.
Flop:Qh, 8d, 4c. (Bleh! Total desert of a flop for you.)
BB checks
UTG raises $15 into the $82 pot, practically begging for people to get $ in.

"Other player folds" Was this out of position or do I have the positions mixed up some how? You seem to be the first bettor... so... uh... huh?)

Anyway, you have position on the UTG guy who made a *tiny* raise with two (three if you count the BB who could be doing a check/raise) people left to act behind him.

You pop it up to $65 to see if he has a hand, and he calls.

Even if UTG is bluffing you're probably beat. If he's not bluffing you are way behind. And since he posted blinds early, well, he's probably wild enough to call you down with any pair.

Pot is like $210.

Turn is a 2h.

UTG bets $25

The best possible card you can hit on the river is a nine, for a lame pair of 9's. You don't want to get any more money this pot even if you hit that.

I'd have folded in that position as well. But I'd also have folded pre-flop with my suited one-gapper.

The $25 into $210---WELCOME TO LIVE POKER ALL OF YOU ONLINE NITS!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D---I can almost promise you he had a hand like J8 here and didn't want to fold. And, with you only having about $200 left, there's probably about a 50/50 shot he folds to a turn shove-raise by you. You're most likely not going to get him to drop hands like Q2-3 or even an 8 with a 10 or better kicker, so just fold if you think he has something like this (which he most likely does). I like your fold. I know it's goofy how he played it, but if you play live enough you know this is not, by any stretch of the definition of the word, "rare."

I think i just give up here live. You can usually read those bets as weak online but live people just dont know about odds and that betting 1/10th of the pot is bad

Play like this live is just spewwww in my opinion.

Anyway the small raise is just begging for a call, obv you can't because you have nothing.

Ive also found that in live play bluffing is more of a rarity if anything and I dont recommend it unless you are playing against players that understand what you are doing.
