I'm playin in a $1-$2 NL game. 10 players.

Twice, in less than 15 mins, I get pkt Qs. I end up losing both times.

Hand 1

I'm UTG, so I bet $6(3x bb), 6th seat calls, 7th calls, BB calls.

Flop is 2-5-9 rainbow. I bet 2x the pot(about $50). BB raises to $300

I think for about a min(max time alloowed) AND FOLD.

He shows AK.

Hand 2

I'm the button. Bet to me is $8. I make it $32. Get 2 callers. Flop is 4-6-J(2 hrts)

I bet $100. BOTH call!!!

Turn is Qd.

I check. one checks, other bets 100. There is NO DOUBT I have the best hand. He has to be on a flush draw(hrts). I bet $250. He calls!!!

The river is 4hrts. I go AI with about 150. he calls.

He wins He has 44

Wonderful time. I drop about a grand. Guess i folded the wrong hand.

Opinions here are appreciated

Ouch. In my opinion I think you played it right you just got hit by a sneaking monster with that second one. In hand one I think I would have went for it. Then again I'm a horrible pool player.;)

I was at a table last night where 1 person had pocket Js twice. Both times the top card on the board was no higher than a 9 and the table checked all the way through. He only bet the BB after the river and I called both times as I had an A both times, just trying to win with high card. He hardly played any hands and when he did, he usually had the best hand, but never bet or raised, just content to call. After the 2nd time I wouldn't bet with him in the hand unless I had the nuts. He would just fold at that point.

To add to that, I was dealt pocket Js and was betting conservatively and there was nothing on the board over me. I went all-in after the river and some other person called. Turns out they hit trips on the flop with pocket 8s. It was one of those nights where every good hand I got was outdone by someone else at the table. Lost on top 2 pair to a flush on the river, lost a straight to a FH and it went on and on. THe river was not my friend!!! I just chalk it up to short term luck. I am winning in 'the long run' so I won't complain too much. Everyone gets those days where you are patient and play only good hands and someone puts the beat down on you!

Looks to me like you played them well. The fact you folded the first time shows you have the ability to lay down a strong hand even if there is nothing on the board to really scare you. The second time you again did the right thing. There are a lot of flush and open ended chasers out there and even though you lose to them sometimes, other times they are a great way to increase your bankroll.

I would have called the raise on the first hand. The second hand you played it right. A player just happen to invest too much on small pocket par and caught a set. Then, catch a lucky river card. Bad beat all the way.

Hand 1: I call here. If KK or AA were in the pot, you'd have probably known pre-flop, and someone with a set doesn't make a large raise on a nothing board. Be more afraid of a smooth call in that spot (see hand 2 for example).

Hand 2: Just a bad beat. Don't change a thing.

I'd agree the first one was a hard call, but a call still. I wouldn't be so worried about AA or KK as 2 pair, although with the raise you'd have to wonder what cards someone would have just called with that would then have you beat.
The second one was a bad beat. When you hit the queen, you already had a pot of $400 to win there and then, and maybe you could have taken it by going all-in when the Queen hit. That said, apart from someone else having trips and hitting their one-outer, or someone having KK or AA and hitting their 2-outer, you were set for the pot, so I think it would on average be more profitable to play the way you did... so yell, curse, try not to throw your computer out the window... and then try to win your money back when you're feeling more yourself again.

1st hand is a push all in situation. He showed strengh on a board showing ragged cards. You lose only to a hit set, which is possible as he only limped. He doesnt have an overpair, I think that is obvious

2nd hand you played perfectly. There is no way you could have got away from it and its just unfortunate he hit his only out

1st one he would have bet less if he had you beat; if he has AA or KK (like someone said in previous post) you would have known by his preflop actions
i say push, though it is hard to get the balls to

2nd hand nothing wrong with you're play
he got extremely lucky and you would've won a monster pot had that last 4 not come off

raise more preflop with queens. you need to establish that you have a good hand and only can allow aa/kk/qq/jj/ak/aq in.

AK would have called and folded the flop I'm sure.

2nd hand 44 (ME at least) should have folded preflop to a bigger raise.

you cant help the luck of some people like with the 4s in the second hand. The first hand I would have reraised and made him sweat the max time (if he'd had even thought about it). If he'd a caught then oh well I guess or had trips then Id would have lost to the better hand then.

You played them well. On the first hand you had overs to the board and could of called, if he flopped a set he would have let you make the bet. The second hand was out of your control, nothing you could do.

The first hand I think you should of called or re-raised. It was obvious you had the best hand there.

The 2nd hand it was obvious you were still feeling the affects of the first hand and figured again you had the best hand and you werent laying it down this time. You just got suckered on that one, not much you can do but with pocket Q's I think you made the right play. More often then not with whats showing on the flop you are going to win that hand.

yeah....what i think you meant was laying down a big hand in the face of a big raise (ie a bigger hand than yours) with a rag board
