This situation came up 3 times on the same table with the exact same player.. I'd have top 2 and he'd river a straight, calling the whole way... I'd have trips he caught a flush on the river, and now this one...

Could I have done anything differently?

I'm thinking I should have raised the turn more... And probably raised the flop more too (but I kind of wanted to set up a trap with this guy)..

So annoyed right now... I'm suck like $40 to this idiot, he's hit the river a total of 4 times against me when it counts... I know this is what I want -- and I haven't said a word to the guy accept "nh" because I WANT him to keep playing like this -- but I'll be damn'd if it isn't VERY annoying that he keeps hitting.

It matters what type of player he is. Some will flop 4 to a flush and call anything to see it. Even if you pushed on the flop, he still may have called.

I would of played it off the flop with a $2.5 bet on the flop. If he calls that, and no club came on the turn, overbet the pot.. the pot would be at about $8 then, bet $10. If it doesn't get him off his hand then there is not much you can do and he is a losing player chasing with an 8 high flush.

I'm so sick right now, I just lost $240 to this guy... we went to play heads up... I had a straight, he called a big bet on every street to hit a flush on the river... I hit top two pair, he called a big bet on every street to hit a bigger two pair... I caught a boat, he called a big bet on every street to hit a bigger boat... This is absolutely sick... This is really pissing me off...

I was calm the whole time about it and then he left the table... I'm really upset right now - and I shouldn't be, I know, it's poker, that's the risk you take... but WTF?... I've never seen any of this shit before... online poker should come with a "warning: graphical content, not meant for the weak and squeemish"

I'm usually a pretty passive guy, and calm... this is nuts.. this guy plays amazingly bad, and he caught EVERY time, I'm not kidding you -- I beat him a few hands where he was just flat-out bluffing and I had a real good hand, but not for a lot of money... and EVERYTIME I had a good hand in the BB he folded... I'd get AA, or KK and I swear to you he didn't call the blind once... but he calls the blinds later with 8-3 offsuit...

Hope you marked him. Find him later and get your money back. If he is going to try to chase make him pay. On that flop there you really need to put a bet out. With a bet like that you are begging for him to continue chasing. The pot is $3.60 and your betting $1.25? You saw the flush draw there and you know he wants it. You had a good read on the guy. Put a bet in were if he calls it's going to hurt to chase. $5 would have been good. And if he called then push on the flop. Don't be results oriented. If he didn't hit you would have taken him for a good piece of change and burnt his fingers too.

You have to remember with players like that you don't want to trap them. They will go willingly after you. So try to get as much as you can from them that are giving away.

I agree with the other guys.

I like to look at what I could have done better, and if my play was not poor I would have been happy even if he had caught.

U basically gave him the odds to chase his flush and he probably guessed u had an ace at least.

So, I know it sounds harsh, but it was your own fault!!!

Learn from it.

By the way, I`m not saying if you had pushed more into the pot he would have folded, but as bubbas said, that is being results orientated. Putting in a bigger raise was the correct move with a flush draw showing.

Finally, why did you push on the river? As soon as I saw his cards and the flop I knew the outcome. You are probably like I was a while ago. If I was delt AA in the pocket no matter what the flop showed I was convinced I `should` have won the pot.

The strength of your hand changed after every community cards and therefore u need to re-evalulate every time a new card falls.

Once again, you board members are right.. I should've put out a $5 bet on the flop, and I should've raised a LOT more on the turn.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't getting correct odds to chase his flush - but you are right that I should have bet more, and pushed harder - regardless of what the outcome could have been... It's the right move. I have a real problem with that, and I don't know why it's so hard for me to fix. I am really adamant on not doing that min-raise stuff anymore....

It was my fault, I accept that... and he is a moron, I accept that too..

Yes, I have notes on him and I will be following him..

Although I have to admit, I do need to work on my heads up game -- he sucked out on me like CRAZY heads up, but I feel a little un-easy whenever I play heads up.. Anyone want to help me with that part of my game?

I agree with raising more (on every street actually, save the river), but putting out $5 on the flop is a little ridiculous. You want action with this hand, you don't want to just push everybody off.

Put out like 2/3 the pot, and take it from there.

OOP, not bad idea to limp w a big hand occasionally. As played, you should bet about 1/2-2.3 of pot on flop, then when he calls and you're pretty sure it's a draw, bet the pot on the turn. If you get re-raised all in then you have to decide if you think he has the set. Bet more is the bottom line.

I would've raised more preflop or checked. Played this way, it just sweetens the pot and you give away implied odds to drawing hands like 87s to get you (for a relatively good price as they'll have position on you). A good rule of thumb is 3bb plus 1bb for every limper. You etiher invest some money to get the people out or you take your chance to see a cheap flop. Trying to do both always puts you in trouble since you have to bet more to keep drawing hands out thus risking more chips than necessary (and the pot can get huge in an instant). We want to control its size with the raise and the subsequent bets (at least for now that our hand isn't made).

On the flop, bet more. You're giving him semi-proper odds to chase : 3.4:1 on his money while he is 4.1:1 to fill his flush on the turn, but he probably knows that he can get more if he hits since you seem o like your hand enough to try to make him draw by betting small.

A bet of 2$ would've made it very incorrect to chase since he would've gotten only 2.5:1 on his money. This is one of the easiest thing to do in poker, give improper odds to call. We don't want to trap him here, he can trap himself and we are vulnerable. Plus, if he is as loose as you say he is, he probably would've called a pot size bet, making it even pricier for him to draw if the turn is a blank.

The bet on river is horrible, why try to represent a flush now that you'Re beat and yyou know he was the one chasing ? So that he can laydown a smaller flush ? This will very rarely happen, especially since he has paid money to hit, he's unlikely to let it go once it materialize. Played this way, it's check/fold on river.

On Heads Up the play is completely different. You need to be ready to play any two cards if you think it will give you the pot. You have to be aggressive. If you are the big blind and you are dealt any face card, suited connectors or A you raise. If you get reraised, look at what you have. Any semi strong hand is good for a reraise or a push. If you are the small blind you call any hand that has a breathe.

Try taking some of your money and play the HU games most sites have. It's good practice. You have to remember one thing with heads up...it's not what you have but what they think you have.
