...to call pre-flop with any 2 cards?

Perfect example: The other night i was playing $3/6 limit at th casino, and I'm in the BB in a Kill pot. Its called around to me by 5 people. I'm holding 24o and I look at the odds. I'm getting 10:1 on my money and thought to myself. What are the odds needed to call with this many people in this hand?

I called and flopped a pair with an OES draw. Unfortunately my straight got there, with someone else's getting there higher :(

I think Harrington mentions this, I could be wrong it might be someone else, but it was something like 13:1 but those cards werent connected.

Some pros on another site cite 7:1 as sufficient.

I don't know about "any two cards." In cases like 2/4o you're basically looking to hit the Steel Wheel (A-5 straight) or a freak full house (the latter of which won't pay off well as the board would be unlikely to help them). Any other straight is apt to be the ignorant end. Any flush you make is apt to the be the smallest. Heck, even if you make trips you have to worry about someone limping in with A/2 or A/4 to outkick you.

Online I'd just muck the 2/4o. Too much trouble. It's easy to win a little, lose a little, and lose a lot with that sort of hand.

In a live game, well, I'm apt to be playing for run rather than profit, so I'd probably gamble a bit and make the call if it was a min-bet, just for fun.
