typical at any .05/.10 table i'd say...people really overvalue TPTK and also AK preflop.
nice pot :)

Just another player overvaluing TP/TK. But in all fairness, not a lot of hands that would call a raise, a reraise, and a second reraise (albeit, a rather weak one) that would have him beat. Small pairs should be out of this hand and KT would seem unplayable.

I might even drop the TT preflop, unless this was typical preflop behavior at this table. The implied odds for hitting the set are not there. So I now have to worry that two players seeing the flop after all this action will have a pair when an A, K, Q or J hits...or worse, one of them already has a pair higher than mine.

Then comes the flop and the only reasonable hands that have him beat are AA, KK and maybe TT. And your raise was only slightly more than double his bet. Then on the turn these are still the only hands that have him beat...unless he thinks that 77 or 33 saw the flop after all that action.

You know, after working through this, I don't think his postflop play was bad at all. He had good reason to call your raise and even more reason to push on the turn when he was getting better than 3:1 on his bet with a very good hand (considering this board). Also considering that you were the original raiser and not one of the reraisers, there is no reason to put you on AA or KK.

I do think his preflop reraise was bad. AK may merit an initial reraise, but almost never earns a second reraise (especially a wimpy one).

CONGRATS on winning the hand. Hard to lose when you flop a set.

the way he played it, i was nearly certain he flopped trip kings, or maybe had AA...I decided it best to pay him off if he flopped a higher set than I did.

It's hard to throw away AK when you hit top pair with the best kicker. You actually were in a great position to get a big pot (and you did). You were aggressive (as you should have) with your trips and he just kept calling and calling. I guess raises don't phase him. Honestly, warning flags would have gone up the way you kept betting large amounts. That's the beauty of sets. You never seem them coming. Good Job!:)
