Hi all,

Been a while since I posted. I'm mainly a $5-$10 multitable SNG player but lately I've been switching over to 6-max 10NL, trying to get a feel for cash games. So you'll have to pardon my ignorance with this type of hand, I've read cash game strategy but I'm still quite new to it.

I wouldn't say this happens frequently, but it happens enough as to where I'm sure I'm wasting equity somewhere. Basically I'm just wondering what to do in a situation like this:

pokerstars Game #25068551283: Hold'em No Limit ($0.05/$0.10) - 2009/02/17 23:10:10 ET
Table 'Phthia IV' 6-max Seat #1 is the button
Seat 1: MindFreak187 ($9.75 in chips)
Seat 2: KCPkrJunkie ($11.10 in chips)
Seat 3: Fr33 Lancer ($12.50 in chips)
Seat 4: koyaan5 ($10.80 in chips)
Seat 5: Sketti69 ($17.20 in chips)
Seat 6: PFAP ($10.85 in chips)
KCPkrJunkie: posts small blind $0.05
Fr33 Lancer: posts big blind $0.10

koyaan5: folds
Sketti69: calls $0.10
PFAP: calls $0.10
MindFreak187: calls $0.10
KCPkrJunkie: calls $0.05
Fr33 Lancer: checks
*** FLOP *** [Jd Ac 8s]
KCPkrJunkie: checks
Fr33 Lancer: checks
Sketti69: checks
PFAP: checks
MindFreak187: bets $0.50
KCPkrJunkie: folds
Fr33 Lancer: ????

Now, I don't use a HUD, so I don't have any stats on this player. I don't want this thread to become an argument over whether to use a HUD, or why am I not using a HUD, etc. If you really want to do know I play on an Apple, so I can't.

ANYWAY. I haven't been at the table too long but I have noticed MindFreak is quite aggro, frequently min-raising pots OOP, etc. I just don't know what kind of credit to give him in this situation. And a deuce is just a terrible kicker.

Always mystified when in this spot. What is the best play here???

What you know.

1) Your oop
2) The field is large
3) You have no kicker, and any other ace beats you, so your hand is reduced to a second pair type hand.
4) Villian bets into said large field, there is players yet to act if you call.

Just fold it as played, I don't overly mind bet/folding either.

I'm just getting into cash games myself so I'm not so sure if my opinion is the best but I think you need to bet out here when you hit the Ace. Everybody limped so you have no idea what anyone has and you need to find out where you're at. you could very well take the pot down right there or if you get called no biggie, see what comes on the turn and proceed cautiously. I think you're giving up the best hand a fair amount of times here as the villain bet could merely be a position bet.

I fold this every time. It's not unlikely you're folding the best hand, but the negative implied odds here are so huge that it trumps any other consideration.

Probably not bad advice but I prefer to lead out in these situations to try take down pot. If I get called and don't hit my kicker I'm check folding from there. It's surprising how many times you lead out from the blinds and everyone folds. If you're new to cash games though folding in this spot is probably preferable.
