Do you raise this river? Reads on opponent: fairly loose and aggressive - 41/23, tried to outplay me (unsuccessfully) on the previous hand with a poor holding. Doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't have a hand here though.

Texas Hold'em $0.50-$1 NL (real money), hand #1,329,032,544
Table Essellte's HE, 4 Dec 2006 2:14 AM ET

Seat 3: swooooon ($205.75 in chips)
Seat 4: __simba__ ($4.70 in chips)
Seat 6: Bombjack_x [ J♠,9♠ ] ($57.50 in chips)
Seat 9: elapal ($5.85 in chips)
Seat 10: thegreaser ($51.80 in chips)
ANTES/BLINDS
thegreaser posts blind ($0.25), swooooon posts blind ($0.50).

PRE-FLOP
__simba__ folds, Bombjack_x bets $1.50, elapal folds, thegreaser folds, swooooon calls $1.

FLOP [board cards 8♠,10♣,9♣ ]
swooooon bets $2.50, Bombjack_x calls $2.50.

Pair and open-ended straight draw, plus backdoor flush gives me plenty of outs if I'm not ahead at the moment. A raise could be in order here - what do you think?

TURN [board cards 8♠,10♣,9♣,4♣ ]
swooooon bets $3.50, Bombjack_x calls $3.50.

He could have a flush, or a flush draw. Obviously drawing dead if he does have a flush, but I may be ahead. I also have 13 outs for 2 pair or better. Some may be dead if he has a Club. I don't raise because I want to keep the pot small at this point, and if he's bluffing, let him bluff.

RIVER [board cards 8♠,10♣,9♣,4♣,Q♥ ]
swooooon bets $10, Bombjack_x ...

Made my straight. But it's a large bet and he still could have a strong hand. He could have the flush, or maybe KJ. Raise or call - what do you think?

I definitely just call here. I could see him having 2 high clubs, with the flop being a semi-bluff and the turn being an only slightly larger bet that he thinks is likely to be called or raised, and as you said, KJ fits as well. Maybe he has nothing. Basically, I don't know what he's calling a raise with that you beat, even if he's somewhat LAG. I'd lay down trips to a raise here, against most players I considered to be solid. If you raise and he pushes back you're not going to like your life a lot.

This is exactly the kind of hand where I loose money. I'd be calling here far too often when I think I should be folding. He's been betting from the start so I don't see this as a bluff, I think he's expecting you to call.

If I can ever bring myself to take my own advice, I'd fold here and save my $10.

Fold getting over 2:1 with villain possibly tilting? Naah.

Looks like a pretty standard call to me, although I have to wonder if villain really is leading a flush draw OOP on the flop with you having raised preflop.

Never any question of folding. I only lose to a flush or KJ. How likely is it that he has one of these? I was just wondering if a raise might be appropriate. He might call with a set or 2 pair or 76, and I suppose there's a possibility he might throw a Jack away if he thinks I have a flush. But consensus so far seems to be I'm probably best off with just a flat call.

call river, against a tighter opponet you might be able to find a fold because you're at best chopping, and still losing a decent amount of the time. Lots of people like to lead out when they flop a strong draw. He either has a made flush or a straight, villian showing you a flush here wouldnt surprise me.

Against a normal opponet I might raise this flop, but it sounds like this guy might put you to a shitty decision if you raise the flop, i.e. a big 3-bet if he's got something like Ax of clubs or a combo draw, so I think calling is fine.

I just called, which I think was probably right:

RIVER [board cards 8♠,10♣,9♣,4♣,Q♥ ]
swooooon bets $10, Bombjack_x calls $10.

SHOWDOWN
swooooon shows [ 6♣,A♥ ] :D <-- Backdoor 6-high flush and the idiot end of a gutshot straight WITH AN OVERCARD rules!
Bombjack_x shows [ J♠,9♠ ]
Bombjack_x wins $34.25.

ROFLMAO at your description of his holding. That could quite possibly be the ultimate chasing hand lol
