Straight flush on the board. Villain (no reads - $25 partypoker player) goes all-in.

Could be a bluff. In fact if he'd checked I would have pushed myself.

Do you call?

party poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (5 handed)

Bombjack ($37.42)
MP ($27.75)
Button ($46.49)
SB ($37.15)
BB ($22.95)

Preflop: Bombjack is UTG with 6

I probably would fold. The pot before, was only $2.35, so you're not really priced in to call at all. However, they likelihood of him having the 6 of spades is low too. I wouldn't know what to do with the situation, unless I was actually in the position, with the choice in front of me, but I'd fold. If you're in a gambling mood, then I guess calling does seem like the appealing option. But then again, with no reads and nothing to base the call off of, except gut feeling or the fact that you really, really want a split of basically $2.35, it doesn't seem worth it at all. So unless you're willing to lose $21.95, which I'm not for just a split of $2.35, I would fold.

Its almost exactly like this hand https://www.cardschat.com/forum/poker-strategy-33/cool-hand-78539/ except for the stakes :D

I was early position there and went all-in and had the 6.

I think id fold.

Hes short stack and from my limited experience in ring games, ppl with those short stacks tend to make ballsy moves sometimes, but whys he doing it for 1 and a half dollars more.

And why would you call for one and a half dollar.

I think id fold.

OK I'm a donk. Let's put it another way: how big would the pot have to be for me to call here, assuming I've still got $22 behind?

I bet he's a donk with the Ks, and then you have to explain to him why the pot is split.

u think a donk would check the K high flush on the turn?

still not worth that kind of money to find out, not for $1.

you do realize you are calling your whole stack to win 1/2 of the pot? Or losing your whole stack. Just dosent seem like that great of a +ev call there.

but you said he most likely has a K of spades which would be a high spade.

If this is at Party Poker then he definetly has the Ks. It is not worth the call.

He had [7h][6s].

It was a bad call. The way to think about it is this: if the [6s] is out there, it will probably call the bet on the flop, with flush draw and a gutshot (although I wouldn't say that's a good play, since it'll be dominated if any other spade than [5s] comes).

Given there are two other people in the hand, that makes it about a 4 in 45 chance that Villain has [6s]. I'm risking $22 to win $1.20 - i.e. my expectation is (4/45)*(-22)+(41/45)*(+$1.20)= $-0.86.

If he has it exactly 4/45 of the time I can work out the minimum pot by looking at the point where my expectation is zero:
(4/45)*(-22)+(41/45)*(min pot/2) = 0
so min pot = $4.29

Of course he's more likely to push if he does have it so the expectation is actually lower and the minimum pot size for a call is higher.

If I think he has it half the time
0.5*(-22)+0.5*(min pot/2) = 0
min pot = $44.

A quarter of the time
0.25*(-22)+0.75*(min pot/2) = 0
min pot = $14.66

The other thing to take into account is that he's pushing out of position, and he can't be sure I don't have it if he pushes. If I've checked and he pushes, he's less likely to have it because he knows I don't.

I really think this call is horrible. I generally dont call huge shoves anymore when the most i can get is a split, id make some tournament exceptions but this would be one of these. Even with the split, calling builds the pot to a stage where the rake im assuming would be close to $3 (im not sure on party) but here if the rake manages to make $2.85 after the shoves your effectively losing even if you split.

Just dont even put any considerations into these ones, easy fold.
