Is it pretty standard to try and isolate and get it all in PF with QQ?

On this level against a semi-short stacked player I think this is ok. It does depend on reads, but he could be doing this with AK/AQ and TT+ (I've seen people do this with even much worse) so you're probably not (much) behind his range. As it turned out you were slightly ahead, so nothing to blame yourself for.

Yep I agree with Sen here. Against short stack it's ok. I'm not a fan of getting them all in with full stacks with QQ. Again as has been said many times previously it's all dependent on reads as well. But I don't have a problem with your play here.

This hand played itself, so to speak.

completely read-dependant

realize however that it's someone UTG who opened and 4bai which for a nit means the nuts and for a lag can mean TT+ and everything in the range btwn

also u can take his short stack into consideration

but like i said... completely read dependent but for tighter players this is the nuts a lot

Yeah, pretty standard I think against a shortstack. PF you have to 3bet with QQ, particularly when you have all those players (6) left to act behind you. There is no way you flat call this. The only time to do so would be if you're last to act, pot is going HU and there is a specific reason for it. I might give the flat call a go vs LAG's if I think I can get more value that way, but some conditions need to be met and with 6 left to act you can't even think about it. The 3bet here is as standard as it can get.

As far as getting it all-in with QQ every time, I think it is a bit read dependant, but more often than not it's the right thing to do. Against a shortstack, whether he's tight or not, I wouldn't hesitate at all. Many times shortstacks will make moves like this with less than premium hands (AJs for ex.). In this case villain has a legit hand and won the coinflip, but your play was the correct one.

For tournament play this is good. But you are in a ring game here. You want to win as much money as you can. And if in the case of one person being all in, you don't want to isolate. You want the other player to stay in to cover your play, if you have a good enough hand. Say, for instance, that you just called the villian's raise and the other guy called it as well.
In theory you can get more chips out of the other guy to cover your loss to the first.

This is $10NL. You get mighty, mighty donks here who will call that bet with Q,J. They will keep right along with you with their two pair, str8 draw till the end. Lok at it this way, you were willing to risk your whole stack to isolate. You would be doing the same to at least cover your loss.

I am not so sure about this. If we just flat call his 3-bet then there will be about $10 in the pot with $5. This is a big pot as soon as we 3-bet so we want to maximize our chances of winning it.

I would like to take a look at the math of it though as this idea does interest me.
