I had AK of hearts in late position at a $25 NLHE table and it gets folded around to me so I raised to $1.00 then 2 calls and it gets to the BB who raised it to $1.75 then I raised again raising the pot which was to like $6.75. He called and the pot ended up being $16.00 then the flop came Js Jc 6s no hearts and he leads out $16.00 so I folded. My question is do you think I should've just smooth called his reraise preflop? Or was my raise back ok? Do you consider this type of raise with AKs preflop to be a longterm losing or winning play and why? Thanks.

PF is fine, as is flop. He's not leading with anything you have beat, and he seems pretty keen on getting his money in, so there's no point in trying to raise/shove to push out a PP.

This is pretty standard.

I think the re-raise is not a good idea. Although you are going to have position, you need an A or K or a couple of hearts in the flop or you only have ace high.

Personally, PF I would have considered a fold because even if you hit your TP you have to be wary of a set - I have seen it happen to many times and stacked too many people this way!

But if I was gonna call it would have been a flat call rather than a RR.

Something like this is completely opponent and stack size dependent. You must ALWAYS include your stack sizes as proper strategy is reliant upon them.

Nothing bad with reraising with ak, specially since you have position.

But i dont like doing it when im reraised, unless were very deep.

Him min-reraising a 4X bb oop indicates his range is mostly AA-QQ-KK-JJ here, so id have just called his minraise 2 see a flop, or id have raised allin.

16$ pot preflop in 25NL, youre better off pushing imo

Its not like yyoull find AQ or AJ here most of the time, you wont be dominating any hands. Youre on a coinflip most of the time or dominated by AA-KK, so i dont like sweetening the pot too much.
