Is there any way that we can really get away from this? Villain was a 27/25/1.2. Where would we be wanting to slow down or is this just a cooler? Damn sets are so hard to sniff out.

Against a solid player, I'm pretty hesistant to stack off of a dry board like that with kings.

With 2 players calling your largish raise preflop, its gonna be really hard to get away from this hand. I probably check the turn & river to him and see how he plays it. But most likely I go broke here. He could be trying to get 3-streets of value out of a hand like AJ here. Maybe if you know he won't stack off with top pair you could fold this, but this spot is pretty tough to get away from.

P.S. - Don't post results. It will skew the analysis. If you hadn't posted the whole "he has a set" thing, I'd probably be saying "GET ARRRRRR EEEEN" or something like that. Well, maybe not that severe, but it affects the replies you get.

GET ARRRRRR EEEEN

Oh wait I smell a set (maybe threes?). I fold. :)

Seriously though you never gave yourself a chance to get away from this hand because you bet into him on each street. With the preflop pot giving you an SPR ~6 it's a pretty marginal stack, but I don't think it's a huge mistake.

i dont think you can really do much in here, maybe raise more preflop, but it pretty much bad luck, sucks

Because I saw the results, I was gonna say that you may want to check one street for pot control.

Then I checked my PT database and it appears that raise preflop, then bet each street is a very profitable line for me at 25NL and 50NL, even when I only have an OP.

Vs. fish, for sure its total profitz. But against a good player who can actually do stuff like fold top pair on a dry board, I like checking the turn. I don't think we can get 3-streets of value out of a hand like KJ.

QFT.

Actually i think the reason it's a profitable line in my PT database is that it's a line i very rarely take. I think I only have 1 occurence for every 4000 hands where I raise/bet/bet/bet with an unimproved overpair or a TP. I guess it means I only take that line against fishes I marked down as calling stations.

Ditto. Either that, or cut down on the size of the bets. But, I was in the same basic situation a couple minutes ago, and the villain turned over TPGK on the river. Barring any reads, though, I'd slow it down here.

Poeple that play at ring games tend to be more solid and better at playing. In fairness you only had a pair at the end which is one of the bottom hands. If the guy is betting and betting but not bluff amounts and still bets on the river you must know something is going on. You need to give yourself a chance in ring games. KK can be cracked so easily when the board falls low. ;)

pretty standard here. The board wasn't all that scary, i don't see anyone slowing down on that turn. Even if you cc the river, he would have likely pushed it.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I think that the point is when someone is calling on a dry board like this a lot of the time it's going to be a set or 2 pair and you probably want to check the turn or river to see where your at when your out of position. I think this is a tricky spot when your out of position and another reason that position is so important.
