Hmmmm, a little too tight here I think. We take down this pot with a raise preflop lots, we have a decent ace for back-up here if we are called, and can get lots of hands we dominate to call. The limp here isnt terrible, and shutting down once we miss a flop is fine, the issue here is flopping top pair against unknowns we have no idea of hand ranges.

Interesting one, we call from the small blind and pick up top pair, Id usually lead out here for a small feeler bet, and for a bit of value. Ive seen mistakes here like this before, flop being checked around and letting lesser hands catch up. Bet/Fold is better than check/fold IMO.

Nice hand after a period of card-deadness. The 3 bet is essential here, a small big on the high size though. I raise to $3.50-$4.00 here, we dont want to scare them off to easily. If you feel that they will call a bigger bet though its fine.

What ??? This is WAYYYYY to tight, put the short-stack in here, or at least see a flop. A 3 bet isnt always AA or KK you know, AK is much more likely, and we can get the shortie off that on a rag low flop. JJ/1010 even 99 does this sometimes, and a bad player can do this lots with worse, even AQ/KQ/AJ occasionally. Im never folding in this pot, 4 bet it or call and at least play a flop.

I'd like to see a preflop raise here from AJ. Especially against limpers, you're almost definitely ahead (barring a PP trying to set, but even then the raise lessens the implied odds of a set).

I think this is a preflop fold. OOP with A-rag, recipe for disaster when we flop top pair like this, but if you're going to call preflop you can't check-fold this flop. Are you really playing this for 2-pair or trips value?

What he said. I don't care what kind of opponent this is, we have to raise this or call this. I'm in favor of the raise. If we raise and he then comes over the top of us, we can then fold. If he flat calls we can assume we're ahead barring an A or K, and if he folds we've picked up the pot. A call isn't horrible here but it's prone to us still not knowing if we're beat preflop and if we call this we're going to have a hard time getting away from this postflop unless an A or K comes. Obviously once in a while AA or KK will flat call us and then get our money in postflop, but most of the time a flat call is either AK or JJ-.

I ommitted 2 of the hands, one of which you folded rags and the other just picked up a pot with KK. I agree with both of tenbob's comments on those and had nothing more to add.

Preflop limp this time is fine from the big blind, we can raise occasionally but limping is usually better. Lead out this on the flop, betting the flop is better than calling the river. A6 is improbable, J10 is in limping ranges, we need to lead out for value and to protect our hand. Way to weak-tight.

Why are you posting out of turn ? It affects you win rate and you should really get into the habit of waiting. Look at the pre-flop raisers stack size, you should be 3-betting here to isolate and for hand protection, certainly not folding. Again a little weak-tight.

I think we have to assume that QQ hand has some reads involved...otherwise that's uncharacteristically tight of Tygran.

I think we can find spots to fold that (ie vs a nit), but they are few and far between.

Whoah. What do we want, A big suited ace ? A few limpers ahead of us ? Position for the rest of the hand ? All of the ingredients are there, we HAVE to raise this every single time. Limping is too risky, we can lose a big pot here on an A-xx flop because we let A-x draw out cheaply. Raise for value, raise to isolate, raise for hand protection.

Ive been noticing that you vary the size of your raises according to you relative hand strength. Once you move up players will start to pick up on this and will start to take notes on you. If your unsure base you raises on your table position rather than your hand strength or raise the same amount each time, and base it on the number of limpers.

This is a good call, but raising here is better here than limp-calling. I think that you need a little FE here rather than the call. Im going to assume this is a read dependant one.

Fine, the bet is a little heavy here though, betting $3 might entice a check raise here. Maybe checking the flop and hoping for an ace or a king on the turn might be better here. This table is paying off though so i dont mind it really. Nice hand.

The thing is when you raise get a caller and miss the flop, most of your profit comes from when you c-bet. This is most effective against one player and your in the ideal situation for it here. Just bet this and take it down. You can alse do this on the turn :)

Why are you posting out of turn ? It affects you win rate and you should really get into the habit of waiting. Look at the pre-flop raisers stack size, you should be 3-betting here to isolate and for hand protection, certainly not folding. Again a little weak-tight.

Just to add on this one, since you did post out of turn, you got what you want; a big hand. I'd be raising when it came 'round rather than just checking.

Cant really argue with much here, the pre-flop raise is hugggeee though, and telegraphs the strenght of you hand. Apart from that standard.
3x = huge? You realize this is $25NL right? I don't like the river check here though. It was check-check on the turn and you just hit a card that you have no reason to believe is not the best hand right now. I think you need to bet it. Luckily villain picked exactly the wrong time to bluff and in this one particular situation you may have picked the right time to check the river, but in general I think you have to value bet that river.

Yea, pretty standard. I usually raise that turn though, just in case hes holding a big club and he gets there cheaply.

I also bet that flop. He checked in front, and rarely will he improve. Check isn't terrible, but I think we need to build the pot and plus if we start cbetting our misses and checking our monsters we become predictable. OOP this would be fine to check and induce a bet, but I think we need to bet this on the flop just for the sake of value. We're not looking for value on the flop, but we're looking to build a pot so the river bet will be bigger and still get called, since bets are based on pot size usually.

Hmmmm, I dont overly mind this but I certainly dont like it. This should be a standard raise, we can limp for big hand value as well, folding is very very tight here.

I'd fold this here too. You're out of position, and this is one of the hands that if we hit we're never sure if we're good. Mainly the problem is if we limp we could get a lot of callers, which we don't want when we hit. If we raise here a caller could easily have us dominated. I don't mind the fold at all. If you have better position you should open with a raise with KQ, but in this position I prefer the fold here. Again, just my opinion.

Chips in the middle waiting for you to reach out and pick them up. Hes telegraphing weakness over and over. Just stab at it. Picking up small pots like these is important for you overall win rate and add up in the long run. How sick will you be if he flips over 32o and wins because you didnt bet at it.

WOW. I've just read the past few hands. Tenbob's nailed most of them. I just want to re-emphasize that AQ is a good hand and AK is a great hand. In fact it's the 3rd best hand in poker preflop IMO (I put it in front of QQ because AK is better than QQ vs. KK). For you to fold it to a 4x preflop raise is just crazy. Honestly, what are you waiting for? I'm 3-betting it every time, but for the love of god, please AT LEAST call.

Cliff notes.

I misread that AK raise of $.75, thought it was $1.75 one of the disadvantages of reading a block of raw hand histories.

This style is very nitty, and youll rarely get into any tough spots because of your style. I understand that you said to me you suffered a few beats in the last few weeks and tightened up. Folding AK even UTG is insane, and folding AQs in position with a few limpers is way to tight and you losing value. If your playing a high volume of hands I have absolutely no doubt that you can turn a small profit playing this style. Have a look at some of the nits and youll see them playing 16 tables like this, even up to nl$200.

You can raise with position more liberally and open up your hand ranges a little more. The example is is the KQs hand above, a suited connector and a big one, and when i say limping for big hand value i mean it, top 2+ and not to get in too deep with weak tp type hands. Steal a little more, raise the button a little more. Start playing you 910s type hands for raises occasionally, even if its to practice post flop poker with hands that can flop huge.

You didnt get into a single tough spots here, very very standard, and looking at the 200 hands you sent me the full amount above was what i could comment on, the vast majority was folds. You will not make much progress past nl$100 playing like this, and even on nl$100 youd be playing a very break even game even marginally losing game playing this style. Its simple too tight explore your hand ranges a bit more, you undervalue you big ace hands. Ill have a look at another session in a few weeks. Just my opnion :)

I wasn't sure exactly what hands were in that file when I sent it.

The AK fold yeah that was simply a mistake, not an intentional decision. I had to run away from the computer and it got autofolded.

I don't remember what happened with the AQ hand exactly, I agree that needed to be raised there.

I had alot of hands on the guy with QQ. He's usually extremely tight and only time I've seen him reraise like that is with KK/AA. Turns out that tonight I should have called him as I believe he was drunk (said something to that effect) and was playing like an idiot. Either that or two different guys use that account. The fold was a result of believing he had KK+ from past experience and realizing that this was either a fold or put him all in as a probable big dog. Anyway when I say tight I mean he was 6/2/4 over a few hundred hands.

Anyway yeah I agree completely with what you said so far. I have been playing waaay too tight lately, kinda got my head twisted around last week at the tables and I think I tightened up to an absurd amount to compensate for it.

Not sure if everyone knows, but "1ofa...Kind420" (ellipsis to hinder Googling) is a notorious 10-at-a-time-or-more multi-tabler and some have even suspected he's a bot (just a rumor). So I think you can pretty much take whatever he does as straight-forward and less tricky post-flop. He's just a smidge on the loose side preflop. I love playing him since his play is so black and white.

I read through a few of those Tygran and like everyone else said, you are WAY too tight. You need to loosen up, a lot. I agree with all of the things tenbob suggested.

Just have a quick comment on the very first hand.

Is that the first hand at the table tenbob, so we have just sat down with a,j in the bb. If so im happy with the check of a,j pre flop. Since we would be out of position against complete unknowns. First hand at a table with no reads, i think a,j loses a lot more money in that situation compared to what it wins.

If it isnt the first hand however and we have stats and reads, a,j definately needs to be raised.

Also you have an uber tight image and probably some unreal tight stats, so take advantage of this at times by raising on the button with some suited connectors, or raising from mid postion with k,j since it is likely to be respected and folded to. Stealing blinds still plays its part in ring games as each one adds up slowly

Yeah actually that AJ was early at the table switch.

Although I deserve every bit of the criticism I'm getting for playing to tightly. I swear this past week hasn't been me playing my normal game! lol.

Actually though I think this analysis is exactly what I needed... It has sort of given me a little mental kick that said "you idiot, stop doing this".

I got some hands to look through for Tenbob as well as part of the swap.. I went through them last night and just haven't had a chance to post anything so that'll be going up tonight.

Bad beat here but this was last night.. this a little better with the aggression? Didn't have much of a read on the villain but his play had been a bit suspicious so far. Definitely hadn't done anything like this before. I decided he had to be restealing from what looked like a squeeze play from me which is what he was basically doing. (who limps after a limper then reraises a raiser? seriously).

Ya I'm getting my money in PF all the time there - as you mentioned it's very rare for a guy to limp behind people with a hand that'll beat QQ here, and he's committed himself enough with the reraise that I'm happy to push. Something to note is that at 50nl+, stealing with position and similar plays are kind of a recurring theme, and if you've been abusing your position too much some players might actually trap with AA/KK here. I've had it happen to me several times; didn't believe them and got punished.

On a side note if we're both sitting 100bb+ deep then I'm usually taking a flop to try and lure those lesser hands in.
