This is the first real analysis i have ever written on somebody else. I have found it quite entertaining, and it's a great learning experience.

I just chose the hands that might have some interest, i dont think anybody really wants a comment on folding 42 in early position. :)

So here is about half of the session.

Not sure I like that re raise on KQ, especially against a short stack. It is very likely a shortstack will push over your raise on just about any pair or AK-A10, so at best were looking at a scenario where you are flipping. Opponent looks fishy thought, maybe this influenced the way you played that hand. Had the king hit the board you would have been in serious trouble.

I guess this was gutsy but well played. Villain’s raise is pretty much screaming “I don’t want you to call me”. I don’t think I’d normally stack on QQ pf, but when you push for all your chips in that situation it is probably because you had some sort of read on the guy.

I guess it is ok flop for 75 in the big blind. I like the bet on the flop. The fact that he just flat called the flop bet probably tells me he is on some kind of draw or just random overcards, so I would like another bet on the turn instead of checking, I don’t really see him having many 10s in his possible holdings. Finally the 5USD bet on the river is probably too much, he has already shown weakness, don’t see you getting much value from him there.

Nice try at stealing the blinds, an unopened pot in late position. Pretty easy fold after you get called and then raised.

Very interesting hand there. I guess you were trying to mix your game up a little bit, otherwise I don’t understand why you would raise there with 57. Your c-bet is pretty good at about 3/4 the pot. Don’t really know but I don’t really like the turn bet (2/3 pot), assuming your villain is an average guy most hands that you have beat are folding, and most hands that beat you are calling as the board isn’t very dangerous. I like a smaller bet on the turn instead, as checking gives him a possibility of bluffing you.

Again a nice try to steal the blinds. Cbet on the flop looks good to me after showing pf aggression. Once he calls your pf raise and your c bet on that flop there is not much you can beat, so check-fold is an easy choice.

Nice 3 bet pf on a nice hand. I would think player in seat 7 is probably loose and/or is floating you. I would probably make it more expensive for him to go to the turn as he is getting great odds (close to 5:1) for drawing on you, and the board allows for a heart flush draw, a broadway draw, or even a low straight type of draw (more unlikely here), and I wouldn’t rule out a combo draw (hearts flush draw/broadway) either. The small stack isn’t a issue here as he is already commited no matter what.

Even though KJ is not a bad starting hand, I do agree wholeheartedly with the pf fold here as you were out of position.

Chuck how often do you double barrell? What type of conditions do you need to double barrel someone?

Asking as in all the hands I have looked at of yours I havnt seen you do it often.

I recently was asking about the exact conditions in which we should 3-barrel at stox, and Ed Miller gave me a very helpful post. Apparently he liked it so much he copy & pasted it to his blog here, so go and read that if you want a good description of when to do so.

Most of the spots above are really bad for double barrels which is why you don't see any.

Thanks for the analysis, johoyo. QQ was against a maniac, so I wasn't against an unknown or anything there. 57 I also had a read but the turn bet was still a little thin.

question directed to chuck. In your first hand you 3 bet with kq pre flop, is this common practice or was this read based??

3-bet vs a steal there is very standard for me, but johoyo has a point about it being up against a shortstack.

I don't really like calling or folding, but 3-betting can get us into trouble.

really, you have never 3-bet KQ?

I 3-bet nits and very tight players all the time as they usually fold all their hands except AA/KK/QQ posibly call me with AK depends on oponent.

The majority of the time they fold to a 3 bet p/f.

Altough dont 3-bet super nits who have VPIPs of 5 as the usually have AA/KK/QQ/AK any way.

The value of the hand isn't the only reason we raise it - usually it's ahead of even the nittier players' button opening ranges - but we want to raise to get FE as well, and to add balance to our play.

If the only hands you're 3-betting vs observant opponents is AQ+/JJ+ or whatever, then you simply won't get action from worse hands.

^^^ I 3 bet with hands such as suited connectors on occasions aswell just to mix up my game, but they are always on the basis of planning on outplaying villain on flop. Ive never thought of value 3 betting kq. Well you learn something new all the time

I like your style chuck you have a very good aggressive game. A few notes....

With KQ I liked the raise against a possible stealer, and he really should have folded to a $10 bet on the flop with just ace high. One small thing, I think a $8 bet is better than a $10 bet, in this case you would have saved yourself $2. And if he will fold to a $10 bet he will also fold to a $8 bet, and a half pot bet (which would actually be $7.5) doesn't give him good odds at all to draw with two overcards.

Jack 8 suited with 4 players left to act you should have folded. I think you need at least a QJ suited, J10suited, or KJ os to play here.

Raising with ace 8 os against an early limper is a bit too loose here IMO. I think a call or a fold here is better. As played tho you played it good.

re: KQ - $10's about the smallest I'll go there - my standard c-bet is 3/4 the pot and I already shrunk it down some. I do agree a smaller bet is called for here (relative to pot, not relative to my $10). I was going to argue that 3/4 is my normal raising amount and that I don't want to change that, but villain is a relative unknown and maintaining consistent bet sizes doesn't matter against him.

re: J8s - just like the 57s in EP that's a balancing play for me - I'm not doing that every time. It's really not even completely necessary at 100nl but I like to :)

Thanks for the input.

second half chuck's session

Here is the second part of the session analysis. This part didnt have many hands to comment on, but it had a couple of interesting ones. Overall i like your style, i guess its regular tag poker with a little twist. I can see clearly that you are a winning player (i doubt this is new to anybody). You are very agressive which is always good, although it does seem you are much more agressive pf than postflop.

Sorry for taking this long, i was a little busy, but to tell you the truth i forgot the second part was still due.

Nice hand here. AA vs KK. I see that you only called his 3 bet instead of coming over the top, I guess that is a good play to disguise your hand and make it less predictable. As played it looks great on the flop, doesn’t look like any of the cards help a 3 betting opponent so you’re shove is good. I don’t know what kind of range your opponent 3 bets, but I think we are probably not getting good value out of JJ, QQ, or AK type of hands, by shoving here. I think I prefer setting up for shoving in the turn.

I like this raise/steal preflop. I would probably raise it a little bit more considering we are in the sb, but other than that I like the way it was played.

Nice hand in the BB. I like the preflop raise. You probably couldn’t ask for a better flop than that. You bet about 3/4 pot and he raises. Don’t see many hands beating you there by the way he played preflop, expect maybe 44. Chances are he is probably trying to take a stab at the pot, and he has some type of draw. I like the call giving him the chance to hit a second best hand and stack against you, although I don’t think raising here is a bad line either, in an attempt to build the pot. Turn is a bit of a cooler, so checking/calling is fine. Opponents 8 dollar bet is very weak considering how big the pot is, it is either a monster hand trying to get value or just a very weak bluff. I think value betting the river is probably the way to go, opponent looks weak and it doesn’t look like that 10 fills up any draw that makes sense.

I think im raising here instead of folding. Were late and the pot is unopened, im probably trying to steal blinds with a marginal holding here.

I guess this is one of those mixing up your game type of plays. I guess its pretty good cuz it makes you slightly harder to read. Flop is pretty scary, but I guess the c-bet is standard, its an easy fold if you are given any action.
