Playing live at a local card room a rather interesting hand I will recreate. Really struggled whether to call this. $300 MAX $1/$3 NL.

SB: $300
BB: $225
UTG: $150
MP: $175
Hero (BTN): $325

Preflop: Hero is dealt 6h 4s
UTG calls, Hero calls, SB raises to $15, BB folds all others call.

Flop: ($63) Kh 6c 7s (4 Players)
SB bets $15, all call

Turn: ($123) 3h (4 Players)
SB bets $25, all call

River: ($223) 5s (4 Players)
SB bets $25, UTG calls $25, MP goes all-in for $120
Hero ???

I was basically calling along because there was just so much $$ in the pot. The flop call was loose I agree but I had been catching cards and I closed the action with decent implied odds on an otherwise non-drawy board – any 4 or 6 and I jam it. The $25 on the turn was just not enough to shut me out getting 4:1.

On the river my thinking is

  • No flush
  • Does anyone really have 89?
  • What the hell could SB and UTG have? if either of them had 89 for the nuts they would bet more? their bets seemed like strong but 3rd or 4th nut hands like sets or two pair. SB specifically seemed like AK or something that still looked good but was vulnerable with 3 callers down to the end.
  • What would MP make this move with? AK – doubtful. 2 pair – probably not. Set – I think so. 89 – yes.
  • SB could come back over the top of MP’s all-in but it wouldn’t be too much more, and he looked weak.

Make the call, move all in or fold??

thanks in advance

393 in the pot and u have to call 120 more. The question is, who is MP? is this guy a good player?

actions by MP so far-call pre(could he do it with 8 9s? yes) call flop(8 9 still makes sense? yes) call turn(8 9 still makes sense) raise river after 5 comes(8 9 is what he has). unless he's a noob who thinks he just played AK or set of 6s or 7s like a genius. btw, the chances of him having 44 here after his action on the flop are 0 unless he's a really, really bad player. one again, it comes back to who is this guy?

Well 89 is certaintly a strong possibilty, but having called this way, we have hit the hand we were calling to hit, so why wouldnt we call all in with hit if we were chasing to hit it. On the basis of this you have to call river. Should have never ever been in the situation anyway
