I want to know why everyone plays so much looser in ring games as com pared to sng's? i would think it would be the other way around. You can lose much more playing the ring games

There is a variety of reasons.

1. Chip values are relative in sng play.
2. Escalation of blinds during sng play.
3. You can't rebuy in most SNGs which means the risk reward factor changes immensely.

If you need more clarification I'd recommend reading up on 2+2's forums or reading more poker books.

The main reason pre flop play is looser in ring games is due to the stack sizes. Most people buy in for 100BB in cash which allow for much higher implied odds if they hit there hand. In SNG people usually have much lower BB, exceptions being the very beginning and end(where stacks are so short better players push a very wide range.

Tournaments are about surviving. You have to outlast others to make the money. Part of survival is not risking risking too much with marginal advantages.

Ring games are not about survival, they're about making +EV moves. You can reload if you lose chips so it's not a big deal to lose big hands when you only have a marginal advantage because over time you will be making money with those plays.

In other words, in a S&G if you make a lot of big plays when you're only 55% to win, chances are you're going to go busto pretty quickly and win nothing. A little bad luck is fatal.
Meanwhile, in a ring game if you make a lot of big plays when you're 55% to win you're *never* going to go busto because you'll just rebuy, and in the end you'll have an average 5% profit (minus rake).
