Ya I like this. We'll probably see 88-JJ more often than anything here (or something like A7 if he's an absolute monkey).

Of course he'll set you or pull an 89 out of his ass once in a while, but generally players who are bad enough to buy in for 1/2 the max aren't going to lead with monsters like that.

I say that villian probably has hit his set on the flop, indicated to me by the standard pot bet he made to chase any draws out of the hand and I really believe that if he has a set of 7s then he'll come over the top of your raise and wouldn't surprize me if he pushes all-in here, and if he does, your behind here or he may even just call if he thinks you hit a hand or has pp5 or pp6, but the 7s will go over the top or even all-in.
If he comes over the top, Fold, your behind here. IMO.

He's only got half a stack so my raise puts him all-in. If he had a full stack I'd probably just call.

Seems like the routine move to me, for this situation; this play fits this situation because of his stack size. Yes you don't have any reads, but most of the time here you're ahead of the hands we can put him on.

Also, like you mentioned above, he's short stacked, it isn't like you're going to be committing any more money to the pot, you're getting great odds of having him beat or just taking it down here by making this play.

I probably make the same play given the situation. If he has a set, tough break, but this is still the right play to make for this situation.

I think a shortstack whos hit a monster (set or something) isnt very likely to lead here. He made a sizeable bet that could scare you away while he can easily checkraise any cbet youd made and youd probably be committed. Probably has 88 or something

If he leads again, i.e. it didn't scare him, I'd consider folding. But depending on what he has, it may well scare him as well. If he checks the turn, I probably check behind and try to get to showdown.
