Hey guys. First just wanted to introduce myself as this is my first ever post. My name is Kyle and I just started playing poker. I've been doing lots of studying and just finished my 5th live session tonight. I've been playing fairly tight and have profited $500 in my first 22 hours of play.

My question is about my last hand tonight. I had been at the table for 3 hours and the action had slowed way down and I also have work pretty early. I figured I'd play my button then head home. Playing 1/3 NL.

It limps to me and I look at QQ on the button. I raise to 15 and get 3 bet to 30 from the small blind. All others fold and I call.

So the player who 3 bet me has been at the table the whole time I have and I've watched him play his stack from 300 down to only 50 a few times and seems to shove fairly loosely when he gets down to around $100. He's shoved hands from AQs all the way up to AA. Seems to play a ton of pots and have seen him call down only high cards a few times in the session. During this hand he has 130 to start and I have him covered.

The flop comes 777 and he instantly jams his remaining 100. Now here is my question and I apologize if this is a super clear play here but like I said I'm brand new to poker and am very interested in learning and playing hands correctly. My thinking was at this point I am beat by KK, AA, and 7x. I took 7x out of the equation mostly because I don't think he would 3 bet with a hand like that. The history I know about him played in and I call hoping he has AK or something along those lines.

Thanks again for any responses in lookin fb forward to learning as much as possible from the forum!

Is because some players are guided by the basicod hands and c9omenten that mistake that having AK his hand is invincible in case it is not true since with weaker hands usually end up losing and he trusted by pretending that he is a player that alone It goes to the safe hands and thus not to be discovered when it makes a bluff

I am sorry I totally forgot to mention in my first post. He turned over pocket Kings in the end of this hand.

Given your read and what you described I think you played it right, it was just bad luck. Curious to see what more knowledgeable players think

Maybe I'm not very experienced player, but the combination with the QQ is often victorious. I'm with this combination of cards willingly go to the ol in.

In this case, I would go all in. It is a very good pair. I often win with QQ. And it is better not to let other players see the flop.

I believe your decision in the flop was totally correct, but later, in the turn and in the river, what happened? He´s a donkey player, sometimes you need to put some ranges into his hands. In general ways, I agree players like him will play all hands in a suicidal way, but you have to analyse all situations.

One more question, in what limit are you playing ? What´s current BR?

In this situation he was all in on the flop. I play 1/3 no limit as this is the lowest stake at the casino I play at. Since I am a new player I and my goal is to be a profitable recreational player I was able to start wth 500 dedicated to poker and have managed to build that to 1000. The max buy in is 300 but because of my bank roll I have been buying for 200. At this point in the night I had 390 on the table as he had 130 to start the hand. In this hand the turn was a 5 and river a jack. He turned over KK. The range I had assigned to him after the 3 bet was AQ-AK, or JJ, KK,AA. The reason I called his all in flop bet was I figured I was ahead of all but two hands of his range at that time.

I agree with you, and I don´t see many options about folding this hand on the flop - I would say that´s almost impossible to do. In my opinion you played correct in the end.

I don´t understand your point, since the opponent had KK and the hero QQ.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Honestly thinking over the hand and the session is probably make the call again. It was a tough spot to be put in for me. Being so new I felt good about my play. I did think after his 3 bet that he would shove on the flop or turn regardless. I still made a small profit from my session and continue to learn every session I play. Glad I found a place to discuss the tough spots I find myself in.

If nobody Raise, I Raise 3BB, if raise raise double. After of Flop If I have Overpair I bet the Pot or more. Depends on how the game is developed and the board.

I think you can get away from the QQ on the 777 board.
A lot of players are never folding. If you could put him on overpair or A7 k7 or 87 then its an easy laydown. How his %'s bet win ratio may come into effect as well.

In my oppinion and im not the greatest cash gamer out there by a long shot, but the main points in your story is that you had QQ vs an agressive player, and you told us he had KK (for advice never reveal this, by doing so other players usually end up focused on what they would do if they knew opponent had KK)

but i like your call none the less, the big question is do you call preflop if you think he has KK, hopefully not since your putting 30 in to win 130 so your not going to set mine, as a result, if you think you think he will be agressive after the flop shoving widely, then its great to see if you get a favourable flop from him, and there is no better flop then 777 if you think hes shoving wide

Thanks for the reply. I must admit his 3 bet really narrowed his range for me and I had a bad feeling about the situation. How I had seen him play really had a big influence on this call. But I can't say I was surprised with what he turned over after I called.

Here is something I have learned over the years, especially on-line. When I have made my decision to leave a table, I often get big hands, especially after playing for a few hours. It is almost like the system knows you are about to leave, and wants to punish you. I actually got dealt pocket aces on the last hand I was about to play, and of course they got cracked. I don't know how to advise you here, because QQ is powerful, and you are often up against weaker pairs or even ace rag. All I can suggest here is follow what your gut says, and if you are wrong, that's the downside of poker. It happens to all of us. In your shoes by the way, I have actually folded because I had a bad feeling. An old poker saying goes, sometimes, even the donks have a real hand.

I think that playing QQ on that flop is incorrect, and you should've folded because his confidence bets in general lead one to think that he doesn't have 10-10 or lower, and JJ is quite improbably, so you should fold the QQ.

I think the shoved in the flop is a weird play by the player. But i think you have to call, because he can 3-bet you in the small because your range in the Button is very wide. So he can't 3-bet light. It was bad lucky that he has kings

Thanks for all the replies. Glad to see there's some people in favor of folding as well. Seems like I get put in a tough spot like this at leased once a session and I try to learn as much as I can about it so I can play better next time.

Whether you have a good read on your villain or not, getting 3 bet and having QQ with a flop 777 changes nothing. Either you think he had AA or KK your beat, or he has JJ, or pocket 10's and your good :)
