Pretty good Laydown in Cash Game

So a few friends and I get together every Tuesday night and play cash games and tournament style Hold Em.. Last night was a cash game with a 20 dollar buy in.. BB is only a $.25 so we can play for a long while with our 20 bucks.. Anyhow we were down to 3 handed after a couple of people busted out and declined to rebuy.. I'm on the button, friend 1 in the SB, Friend 2 in the BB.. I have Ace 9 of hearts (not too shabby 3 handed) so I raise it up to $.75(big spender!).. Friend 1 folds, Friend 2 quickly calls the extra .50 out of the BB.. That gives me a little bit of pause right away.. Flop comes down 9 6 6 rainbow.. I check instead of leading out with my 2 pair because I want to see what he does.. He bets out twice the pot for $3.00.. Now this player always, and i mean always just bets the pot.. I go to work in my head trying to deduce what this bet means.. I figure if he has pocket 9's he just flopped a boat and he wouldn't be betting like this.. Also if he has pocket 6's he flopped quads and i'm certain that he wouldn't place that bet either because he'll want to reel me in.. I decide that his bet means he's got a good hand but it's one that can be cracked and he just wants to shut things down right now.. After about 2 minutes I fold my 9 face up and say "I fold, because you've got an overpair to the board and i'm not going to pay to draw".. He says "great laydown" and flips over pocket Jacks baby!.. I was pumped because I was proud of the fact that I didn't rush myself and I took my time to examine the hand and take into account the type of player it was against.. I'm learning this game and it's a really cool thing!

In the above i'm sorry about the misinformation there after the flop.. I had position on him and he bet out $3.00 right after the flop and it was on me.. I didn't check my top pair but i was going to if he didn't bet.. He did bet though obviously which led me to my decision to fold..We played so many hands last night that I got confused on the play by play..Sorry about that

Oh I think I understood what you were saying. Great work stopping and thinking about what the villian (friend in this case ) had and not just going on auto-pilot. A good sign that you are on the right track, keep it up!

I'm pretty sure I understood what happened; good laydown - It's all about analyzing your situation, and acting accordingly. Well done, RNH.

p.s. - It makes a post 10X easier to read when you separate paragraphs and put a good format to it; try to post your hand like a Hand History text next time and it'll help Big blocks of text are hard on the eyes and hard to read sometimes.
