I think I've found a new love. First time I've really gotten into Omaha (besides play money) and I think it's a game I could really be good at. I've read the CC articles on it and I think I know the basic strategey. If I could get any advice on anything.

Session: 1c/2c
2 Tables
100 hands

I can email you the pokerstars email if you PM me your email.

Hi Lo is my new favorite game also..It's so ridiculously full of fish on poker stars..Few things I have learned in the past couple of months..

1. Play hands that have a great potential to scoop the pot. There's nothing worse than flopping a broadway straight with the ace on the board and then someone catching runner-runner low cards to take the low half of the pot.

2. Any hand with Ace-Deuce is great because it will more often than not give you the nut low, however there is also a good chance of getting counterfeited on the low if an ace or deuce hits the board..Always play hands like Ace-2-3-4 that way you have counterfeit protection towards the low..

3. If you hit an underfill boat at a full table a good majority of the time it's no good..Don't get to war with a hand like deuces full of 6's or 3's full of 8's..You will lose big pots that way..

4. Never play hands like 4-5-6-7 or 5-6-7-8 because even if you hit the flop hard it will consist of all low cards giving another player a chance at half the pot.. It's just not profitable to play these types of hands because scooping the pot will nearly never happen..

5. If you flop a set you more than likely have to pair the board to win..A Set just will not win many pots in Hi LO

That's about all I can come up with now..I have been playing Omaha Hi Lo nearly exclusively now for the past two months because it's just a much more enjoyable game to me.. All the cool kids play No Limit Hold Em and i've never been one to follow the crowd all that much..I want to become a more well rounded player instead of a one-dimensional Hold Em player..Let me know if you need any more advice, I'm happy to help with what I've learned so far and I too hope to learn even more about the game myself..

one other thing...

just two things to mention in PL
1 - don't bother maxing out the PF bets. Mostly because there is no dominant hand, and you're probably just driving out people who will draw down to try and hit their set/boat/straight/flush and pay the whole way after the flop. On a similar vein, don't be too scared to call big PF bets if you have a great hand - even the most "dominant" PF hands are less than 50% to win in a 3-way pot with 2 random hands, so you have to take your chances with good pockets. Just think of how many ways there are to beat AAJT double suited, or A234, and its fairly obvious.
2 - make sure your hand selection is good. For example, AJT5 rainbow might seem good to a NLHE player, but its a marginal hand in PLO8.

Hand selection is my biggest problem. Is it good to see a lot of flops cheap? I've been seeing a lot of flops but the flop is where I either make or lose money.

I find tht if you gonna play those levels then you should play only quality hands because every1 else will always play any 4 random cards. If you have the nut lo i find if there is a multiway pot bet it hard because even if you get quatered it will still give you profit because players will call you down with 2nd nut 3rd nut and sometimes 4th nut lo. if you flop a str8 beware every 1 will chase so dont get your self too pot committed. 2 pr is nearlly always beat by the river so the same rules apply and to a lesser degree trips (depends on board flush str8 possibilities). if you flop the nut high eg. flush or house or better bet raise and reraise because 90% of the time you will get lower made hnds or draws chasing. Beware the low flush by this i mean 2 nut lower as if you find yourself in a big pot with it you will usually find yourself beat.

any way gl with the new game and i hope you get many fishy$$$$$:D

Im not picking on you but some things are wrong here. Part 2 is wrong here any A2 hand is not good. A hand like A2KQ double suited is good or A234 or something like that but do not run any A2. All your doing with A2 is giving the potential that you will split the low and pay off the high.

I love omaha which is why im playing a mixed game in wsop. Be very selective of your hands and play hands that have good chance to scoop. Play for the high and if you get low also that is great but only play hands that have good potential and be able to let them go if they dont hit.

Do not run low pairs because even if you flop set there is good chance you are still losing....also A2 hands can become counterfited real easy. Im trying to find this link now that will help you all alot written by a great omaha player. ok im going to type something out, its long.

instead of typing out whole article found something else

from here
http://casinogambling.about.com/cs/poker/a/omahahilo.htm

good but not great.

http://www.inside-edge-mag.co.uk/advancedplay/omaha/838/hidden_treasure.html

little better.

basicly you can only play A-2 hands if your other cards work together, in omaha you want all your cards to work together to give you better chance at scooping. Getting quartered is the worst in omaha, you win the low and still lose chips?!?!?!?

here is top 10 omaha hands

chart

it took me awhile but I found it sorry about all the posts....

taken from here http://www.homestead.com/ehutchison/OmahaSystem.html and written by edward hutchinson

read this chart its pretty good.

thats all the posts I got, hope some helps just please dont become one of those players that see A2 and figure they just found gold because running every A2 is going to lose you alot of money chasing that low just to quarter. AND BY NO MEANS RAISE ON YOUR LOW IN A MULTI POT!!!!

I elaborated in part 2 after originally saying "any hand with ace 2 is good" because I realized that is really misleading advice.. I mentioned the fact that you need extra low cards (i.e. Ace-2-3-4) for counterfeit protection towards your low..

I just go overboard on omaha alot because I do love the game, dont take anything I posted as a shot at you.

If you are interested in omaha buy this months issue of bluff magazine Mike Matasow wrote a great article on it, I started to type it up on here but got tired of typing and its not up on their site yet.

A2

oh yes, the biggest mistake of rookies - do not overbet A2xx PF or on the flop. Aound 50% of hands actually have a low pot, and around 30% of those have an A or 2 on the board. So A2 is around 30% to win 50% of the pot. Not really good odds. Similarly, unless the flop is all low, your odds still aren't that great. two low cards is only good in your hole when you have two other good cards to compliment them (AQJ2 double suited, AA53 suited, etc).

they dont have to be high you can have A234 double suited and still have a good hand, you have 4 cards to the wheel, 2 cards to nut flush and a pretty damn good low draw that is real hard to get counterfited. You just have to be able to fold if board is AK9.

you have to be very patient in omaha. Dont try to force a hand.

It's all good my man..I didn't take it as a shot, I just wanted to clarify what I had originally written.. I am absolutely hooked on HI Lo as well.. Hold Em is a great game as well, but for now HI LO has captured nearly all of my attention.. Hi Lo is such a paradox because people commonly believe that you can play more loose than in Hold Em since you have 4 cards instead of 2, however the exact opposite is usually true.. It's ok to see a good number of flops however you have to have the discipline to fold very frequently sometimes even when you flop the nuts!..For instance the other day I was at a full table (9 players) where I flopped a 8 high straight with 2 diamonds on the board.. It went bet-raise-re-raise and I quickly folded because there were already two cards to a low on the board as well as well as several flush draws obviously out there.. Right away I knew that at best I was only going to get 50% of the pot and in all probabilty 0% of the pot..Easy fold..

you have the ability to lay it down though, most new players dont which is why you shouldnt see that many flops. Most new players to omaha shouldnt be running that many hands because if they catch a piece of it which they most likley will they cant let it go.

I have never played anything but hold'em live, plenty online but none live. When I go to AC in a week or so I will let you know how it is live. I want to log at least 10k hands of stud live and omaha live before wsop.

I've also got really into Omaha H/L over the last few months so much so that I bought two books on the game. How To Win At Omaha High-Low Poker by Mike Cappelletti and High-Low-Split Poker, Stud 8 and Omaha 8 For Advanced Players by Ray Zee. They both focus on Limit Omaha 8 rather than Pot Limit which suits me fine as all I seem to do at PL is lose money. These books are a must for anyone who is into Omaha H/L in a big way.

You might want to give LO8 a try, in my opinion its a much better game than PLO8. The first reason is that its far easier on your BR than other forms of poker. Last week I had probably the worst run of cards I've ever had, in one H/L session i didn't get an Ace for over 40 hands and when I did get one it wasn't suited or have a decent low card. This run lasted 4 or 5 days but my BR didn't even dip by one buy-in for the .10/.20 tables($4), and I was playing several sessions each day.

There are probably more fish at the LO8 tables. The illusion of getting at least their money back and the fixed bets make it very easy for the fish to tag along with marginal hands. This means sticking to solid starting hands and playing a simple game will be enough to make a decent profit.

LO8 isn't as exciting as PLO8 but I enjoy it.
