I have been playing for about a year now, and I do consider myself a bit of a "reg" in the local casinos now. However, I am certainly by no means perfect.
I do have a question for others concerning overpairs and how to deal with them.
Tonight I entered for 200$ at a local 10 handed 1-2 game.
The hand in question is this. I am in the Hijack with black QQ with 480$ effective. Two Limper's ahead of me. I raise the action to 15$ and I am snapped called by a decent TAG player on the button with 230$ effective, the big blind also calls and both limpers fold.
Flop comes 4,6,7 with 2 hearts.
Blind checks and I bet 30$ into a pot of about 50. Button player then jams for 200$ and the blind folds leaving me to the decision.
This player is a reasonable TAG player, so I can reasonably toss 58 from his range of snap call hands. I also feel that this player is not playing sets like this. I feel most players here would either flat the c-bet or maybe make a smaller raise to size up a turn bet.
So I feel that the most likely situation here is for villain to have some sort of strong flush draw, which he could reasonably have many AK, AJ, KQ, KJ, combos of heart draws, or he could also have some sort of 88,99,10s that do not want me to realize my equity.
The only worry is he COULD have 4s 5s or 7s, but I decide to call. Indeed, he has 4s and the board bricks away to stack away my profit for the session.
Now, would anyone here suggest that my range of possibilities is possibly too wide, or is my range correct and I can talk myself into calling this a cooler? Secondly, is it a good assumption to run with most decent players won't overbet jam a set right away?
Thank you for the thoughts. I am still trying to really hone my range finding skills, being so young in my poker journey
