sorry but its another live hand so you have to deal with my hh.

My image at the table was LAG as usual and its 9 handed full ring.

Villain had been at the table for about 60 hands and has only played 3 of them. He had raised from the co and took down blinds and a few limpers pre flop. He had seen a flop from the bb for free and check folded it, then he had called a raise pre flop then check raised the c bet on the flop to take it down. Based on this im assuming he is a rock only playing premiums, or maybe he is just being dealt junk

Hero (£217)
Villain (£97)

blinds £0.50/£1

Dealt to Hero [:2d4::2s4:]

4 players fold
Hero raises to £3
1 player folds
Villain calls £3
2 players fold

Flop [:4h4: :2c4: :9d4: ]

Hero bets £5
Villain calls £5 (This is where im thinking, what does a rock call with there on that flop)

Turn [ :10s4: ]

Hero bets £11
Villain raises to £89 and is all in
Hero ???????

could either be an overpair or overset
i dont think he would have bet so big with only something like JJ to AA but u never know
im putting him on turned set of 10's
u have to call 78 into a 117.50$ pot,not exactlt good odds but i would have to call altho i think he has a set of 10's

Call. Rock type players that wait and wait for big premiums readily stack off on over pairs. They are waiting so long for them that they simply can't fold. If you run into 1010 then well thats just bad luck/cooler time.

I'll pay him if it's 99 or 10 10, but to me this looks like AA. You've never seen him go beyond the flop previously so you have no real read on his aggression.

"Never fold a set with no straights/flushes on board - you're probably outthinking yourself more often than making a brilliant laydown." (or something like that) Mr Doyle Brunson

Reeks of overpair imo, we stack all day.

Yeah, if you flop a set, and someone has an over-set, and you're not shipping chips over to them by the truckload, something is wrong with you. Maybe we could get away from this hand if we were like 50000 BB's deep, but otherwise, I stack off with this all day.

Firstly its pounds not dollars :p

What i dont understand is that if he has an overpair like many of you said, he slow played it on the flop and now the turn has not brought a scary card at all, probably 1 of the least scary cards possible, so why would he suddenly stop with the slow playing here. Ive never played against a rock like this before so i really didnt know what to do.

The problem is, on average is this set over set or overpair? surely if he is a rock he is re raising pre flop with jj+?

this is an overpair 99% of the time. Call it.

Agreed that this is an overpair a good chunk of the time - nits will definitely slowplay them, especially against someone who's been lag. No way we can find a fold here.

Saying this reeks of an overpair and demands a stack-off would be kinda redundant at this stage, huh?

So snapcall / fistpump / look of horror if villain actually turns over TT?

You're right that TT definitely fits his line up until now, but, you've gotta ask why anyone would shove top set on a board with next to no draws when they've got someone betting into them. This is much more likely to be AA / KK getting affraid of a suckout on the river.

Well i called, thinking at the time i made a bad call since i couldnt work out what he had at all, so i called more in curiosity thinking im only beaten by 3 hands, more than knowing im ahead. Anyway he turned over q,j so he only had an OESD, the river didnt compelte that and i took it down. He did say after the hand however that he was calling on the flop looking to bluff on the turn to take advantage of his solid image, unfortunately for him i had a set, if i have anything less i probably fold to the bluff.

before i looked at switch's last post, i put the "rock" on something like 9h10h. the way switch described him, u'd have to be a lunatic to put him on qj.

i didn't put him on set because of his overbet. very few, creative people overbet with super strong hands. 3 flops in 60 hands doesn't exude that creativity.

you also have to consider the image of him in switch's mind. he knows that switch knows he's tight. then why would he drive switch out with a super strong hand when switch's happily betting the hand for him?

btw guys, i'm new to this site. but not new to poker. been playing for nearly a year. always go busto because of my terrible br management. like to take shots and go on tilt once that fails. maybe u can help me with some advice there.

of course discussing hands here is a great tool because u start learning how to organize ur thoughts and once u do that, poker is not that hard no? excellent site, i love it.

Actually a very very good point. I didnt think of that. He surely wouldnt have tried to get me out of the flop wit ha strong hand, so well noticed. Maybe if he had put in more of a value bet it would look stronger.

Also 9,t is not in the picture at all vs a rock

Against rocks, I always play paper.
